Froch’s three-fight plan already unraveling, Kessler not sounding interested in fighting him

Image: Froch's three-fight plan already unraveling, Kessler not sounding interested in fighting himBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s grand 3-fight plan for 2013 is already coming apart at the seams after a short phone conversation Froch had with his former conqueror Mikkel Kessler where the Dane didn’t sound all that enthused about being a part of Froch’s vision thing for 2013 when asked if he was still planning on fight him.

Froch has a fight this Saturday night against Yusaf Mack in Nottingham, but that’s not part of the three important fights that Froch is dreaming of for next year. Froch wants to fight Lucian Bute, Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward in that order and he thinks he can beat all three. I think Froch’s chances of beating even one of them are fairly remote given how talented some of them are.

Mack: Once Froch feels my power he’ll back off

Image: Mack: Once Froch feels my power he'll back offBy Scott Gilfoid: Light heavyweight contender Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) brings a nice little two-fight winning streak into his fight this Saturday night against IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) in Nottingham, UK. Mack isn’t going to let Froch back him up and pound away on him like he did his last opponent Lucian Bute.

Mack has already said he’s going to stand his ground and not let the 35-year-old Froch put him in a position where he’ll have to fight with his back against the ropes in a helpless position.

Mack said “Once Froch feels my power, he’ll respect me. He won’t be rushing in fighting a bigger, stronger guy like me…he has to beat me.”

Froch vs. Mack this Saturday in Nottingham

Image: Froch vs. Mack this Saturday in NottinghamBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) fights Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Capital FM Arena, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. Froch, 35, can’t afford any slip ups in this fight because a loss here will erase his dreams of a murderers row of top fighters that he wants to fight against Lucian Bute, Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward.

Froch has fought a number of tough opponents in the last few years in Jermain Taylor, Jean Pascal, Andre Dirrell, Arthur Abraham, Glen Johnson, Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward. Froch has struggled in virtually all of those fights, and is lucky that he has more than two wins out of that bunch.

Froch: Mack will fall apart under pressure

Image: Froch: Mack will fall apart under pressureBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) is under the mistaken belief that his opponent American Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) is someone that will fall apart when put under a certain amount of pressure from him on November 17th. Froch thinks that all he has to do is put the right amount of pressure on Mack and he’ll crumble just like former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute did last May when Froch beat him in Nottingham.

Froch said to Sky Sports “When he’s put under pressure I think he’ll fall apart,” Froch, who will be having his ninth successive world title fight. It’s my job to put him under educated pressure and take his confidence away from him early.”

Enzo: Froch is good but not great

Image: Enzo: Froch is good but not greatBy Scott Gilfoid: Enzo Calzaghe, the father and trainer for former super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, says he doesn’t see IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch as a great fighter but rather just a merely a good fighter.

Enzo told Sky Sports News “He’s [Froch] a good fighter, a good fighter….He can get plan A or plan B; he can’t find plan C…Greatness is a different level.”

True, very true. Froch is just another good fighter, nothing spectacular. There’s nothing that stands out about Froch other than his ability to absorb punishment on his big lantern chin. That takes a special quality to be able to walk though the kind of shots that Froch does each fight, but I don’t call that greatness.

Froch: I want Andre Ward rematch in the UK

Image: Froch: I want Andre Ward rematch in the UKBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) is still looking past his November 17th fight against Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) towards a hoped for revenge rematch against Andre Ward despite the fact that Mack has the power to end Froch’s career with a single swing.

I don’t know why it is but the loss to Ward seems to have really gotten to Froch because he can’t let go of that defeat for some reason. He’s like a hungry dog that can’t get go of a bone. Froch shouldn’t even be thinking Ward fight now because before Froch can even get to that stage, he has to beat #1 Mack, #2 Lucian Bute, and #3 Mikkel Kessler.

Froch: It’s Mack’s last chance at a world title shot

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) thinks for some reason that his fight with light heavyweight contender Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) on November 17th will be the last chance for the 32-year-old Mack to fight for a world title in their fight in Froch’s hometown at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom.

Froch’s three-fight plan is doomed for failure

Image: Froch's three-fight plan is doomed for failureBy Scott Gilfoid: Normally fighters don’t plan their fights well ahead of schedule because there’s too many chances of something going wrong, which is why am more than a little amused with hearing IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch talking about his three-fight plan for next year.

After Froch’s fight this month against Yusaf Mack on November 24th, Froch plans on fighting the following guys in 2013: Lucian Bute, Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward. It’s thought that Froch will then retire from boxing and wrap up his 11-year pro career at that time. The problem with Froch setting up his itinerary for all to see is it’s so improbable.

Froch’s fight against Mack likely his last in Nottingham

Image: Froch's fight against Mack likely his last in NottinghamBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) appears to be winding down his 10-year pro career and his fight against American slugger Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) next month on November 17th could be the 35-year-old Froch’s last fight in Nottingham, England. Froch plans on fighting Lucian Bute, Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward after the Mack fight and those fights most likely will end up in those fighter’s countries.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “If the Bute fight happens it will be in Canada and rematches with Ward and Kessler could well happen in America and Denmark, so this could well be my last fight in Nottingham.”

Hearn: If the IBF doesn’t let Froch skip Stevenson bout, he’ll vacate

Image: Hearn: If the IBF doesn't let Froch skip Stevenson bout, he'll vacateBy Scott Gilfoid: As many people expected him to do, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) won’t be fighting his IBF mandatory challenger Adonis Stevenson like the International Boxing Federation so ordered Froch to do. Froch is taking an optional defense next against Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) on November 17th at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. After that, Froch wants to take another optional defense this time against former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute next March in Montreal, Canada as part of their contract. But usually champions are only allowed one optional defense followed by a mandatory.

The reason why the sanctioning bodies make champions do this is because if they didn’t some champions might choose to fight bottom feeders over and over again in order to milk their title instead or fighting the top contenders. Froch and Hearn don’t appear to be interested in defending against their mandatory challenger Stevenson, who recently defeated Don George in an IBF 168 pound eliminator bout.
