Image: Mack: Once Froch feels my power he'll back offBy Scott Gilfoid: Light heavyweight contender Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) brings a nice little two-fight winning streak into his fight this Saturday night against IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) in Nottingham, UK. Mack isn’t going to let Froch back him up and pound away on him like he did his last opponent Lucian Bute.

Mack has already said he’s going to stand his ground and not let the 35-year-old Froch put him in a position where he’ll have to fight with his back against the ropes in a helpless position.

Mack said “Once Froch feels my power, he’ll respect me. He won’t be rushing in fighting a bigger, stronger guy like me…he has to beat me.”

Mack has to focus on fighting Froch like Andre Ward did by jabbing him hard to the head and then looking smother him like a flame by collapsing inward to fight on the inside. Froch’s reach is nullified completely once his opponents are able to get in close on him.

Froch will back off once he tastes some of Mack’s power shots and he won’t try and run him down like he did Bute. That’s the thing with Froch, he doesn’t like to get hit. He talks good game but when you watch his fights against guys that came at him and hit him with big power shots you’ll notice that Froch backed off and was in full retreat while trying to land shots on the run. You don’t chase Froch.

That’s not you beat him. The way to beat Froch is to establish position in the middle of the ring and refuse to move from that position. Froch isn’t good in the center of the ring. Froch is only effective when he traps his opponents against the ropes or is throwing punches retreating. He’s got those long arms that allow him to land shots while backing up, but he’s pretty mediocre in the center of the ring.

Mack has got excellent power and really good boxing skills. He’s definitely the biggest puncher and the best athlete that Froch has fought in quite a while since he was schooled by Andre Ward last December.
