Froch: Mack will fall apart under pressure

Image: Froch: Mack will fall apart under pressureBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) is under the mistaken belief that his opponent American Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) is someone that will fall apart when put under a certain amount of pressure from him on November 17th. Froch thinks that all he has to do is put the right amount of pressure on Mack and he’ll crumble just like former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute did last May when Froch beat him in Nottingham.

Froch said to Sky Sports “When he’s put under pressure I think he’ll fall apart,” Froch, who will be having his ninth successive world title fight. It’s my job to put him under educated pressure and take his confidence away from him early.”

I think Froch couldn’t be more wrong if he tried, but I can understand why he would be. Froch is like Amir Khan a lot of ways. Froch’s got that big ego working for him, and he’s now sky high from the win over Bute, thinking he can do the same thing to Mack that he did with Bute. The win over Bute has planted some crazy ideas in Froch’s head.

We’re already seeing Froch’s ego getting a little out of hand with his comments about how he’d beat Andre Ward if Froch were fighting at the same level he did when he beat Bute that night. Froch thinks that if he switched Ward for Bute that night, Ward would have been beaten as well. You see what I mean?

What Froch did to Bute on that night was limited to that one opponent on that specific night. Just because Froch did that to Bute doesn’t mean Froch will be able to do the same thing with a power puncher like Mack. Those guys are two different people and I think Froch is making a huge mistake if he tries to go toe-to-toe with a big puncher like Mack. I think Bute excellent power, but he’s not the same kind of rugged power puncher that Mack is.

Mack has better power and can punch with huge power with every shot he throws, whereas Bute has to actually load up with his shots. My point is if Froch tries to pressure Mack with his so called “educated pressure,” Mack is going to spark Froch out straightaway.

Mack will tee off on Froch. Look at how Froch fights. He’s got the stand up European style where he’s ramrod straight up, just begging to be hit in the grill. Then Froch makes it even easier by keeping his hands down by his knees when he fights. Mack is going to be able to drive a mack truck through Froch’s nonexistent guard and spoil his night in front of his own British boxing fans on November 17th.

If Froch comes looking to pressure Mack like he’s blabbering around, Mack will knock him out cold. There’s no ifs and buts about it. Froch is tailor made for a fighter like Mack, and he doesn’t have the same kind of talent that the guys that have beaten Mack in the past. Styles make fights and Froch doesn’t have the style to beat Mack. That’s why he needs to fight defensively and just hope he doesn’t get trapped and beaten down by Mack.
