Froch – Kessler trilogy anyone??

kessler34By Ben Walton: This spring, rumored to be sat 25th May, Two of today’s biggest names in super middleweight boxing will be meeting once again, to battle inside the squared circle. Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler.

The first fight between the pair took place in Herning, Denmark in 2010 with Kessler claiming a points decision to hand the Briton a first career loss.

The Nottingham man had been forced to travel there on a private plane with trainer Rob McCracken through the volcanic ash cloud, and has always maintained that the journey had affected his preparations during the week.

The fight was an absolute barn-burner till the last bell, and one that Froch feels Like he would of won been it on home turf. I personally think that the scorecards were correct that night in Denmark.

Froch: Kessler doesn’t stand a chance against me in the UK

froh454By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) was pretty well beaten the last time he fought WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) three years ago in April 2010 in the Super Six tournament. Froch blames the loss on the combination of the Iceland volcano ash cloud and him fighting Kessler in Denmark.

Froch doesn’t think Kessler will have a chance at beating him in their rematch in the UK seeing that he’s coming off of wins over Lucian Bute and Yusaf Mack and is doing well.

Froch said to Steve Bunce at espn.co.uk “It’s [Kessler fight] is a chance for me to redeem myself and get my legacy intact. The last time I fought him was in Denmark. It was close but he was always going to get the win if it was a close fight.

Froch: I’m going to stop Kessler inside 9 rounds; he can’t out-box me

froch01By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) figures he’s going to beat WBA 168 lb champ Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) this time around when they meet up for their rematch in the next four months. They still haven’t got a concrete date for the fight, but May 25th is the tentative date right now in London, UK.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “I will stop Kessler inside nine rounds. I am on the crest of a wave and I think I have the beating of him because he knows he can’t outbox me. If it goes the distance, though, I think I’ll beat him on points, as I’ll be putting four, five, six-punch combos together once I’ve got him where I want him.”

Okay, so it looks like Froch sees himself winning no matter what happens in the fight. He thinks he can stop Kessler, and if not he’ll win by a decision. Froch is jabbering about being on the “crest of the wave” business from his wins over Yusaf Mack and Lucian Bute. This is what I was afraid of.

Froch says he wasn’t 100% for his loss to Kessler in 2010 fight

froch4335By Scott Gilfoid: In an interview with Sky Sport, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) pulled out the old excuses for why he got beat by Mikkel Kessler back in April 2010 in their previous fight, blaming it on not being in the best of shape.

Why Froch, one of the most disciplined fighters in the game in terms of conditioning, wasn’t in the best of shape for his 2010 fight with Kessler is the big question.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “The fight could have gone either way in Denmark but I know I wasn’t in tip-top shape…a volcanic ash cloud played a part in it. I went over their late and wasn’t 100 per cent focused or on my weight like I usually am – but you saw against Bute, when I put in a barnstorming performance, what I can do when I am fresh and jump in.”

Froch thinks his rematch with Kessler will attract a lot of fans

froch92By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch is counting on a lot of Brits to show interest in his rematch against WBA champ Mikkel Kessler if Froch and his promoter Eddie Hearn can successfully negotiate the fight with the Dane. Right now it’s up in the air whether that fight will take place, but Froch thinks it will do really well if it does.

Froch said to thisisnottingham.co.uk “Everything is in place for what will be the biggest fight in Britain in the last 10 years. It’s the fight everybody wants. The television companies are happy and we have a couple of venues.”

Froch-Kessler negotiations at an impasse; Stevenson could face Froch next

stevenson34By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s grand plans on facing WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler next are quickly going down the drain, as RDS.ca is reporting that the negotiations are at an impasse and that now Froch’s #1 IBF mandatory challenger Adonis Stevenson could be the one that Froch faces next.

Froch has until January 15th to agree to fight Stevenson, and he reportedly no longer has the option to put off the fight with Stevenson. Froch now has decide whether he wants to keep the International Boxing Federation 168 pound strap or if he’s okay with giving it up or having it stripped from him.

Carl ‘ The Cobra’ Froch: What’s next?

froch55By Chris Bax: Carl Froch had a great 2012 winning a third world title in beating the much hyped and at the time unbeaten Lucian Bute for the IBF world super middleweight strap last year in May. Now what lies ahead for Froch in 2013?

What the fans in the uk want for ‘The Cobra’ next is a unification fight with the Danish World Boxing Association (WBA) title holder Mikel Kessler, and it looks as if that fight is close to being made for March/April time in the UK. Froch did have a rematch clause in the contract with Lucian Bute but it seems that Bute wants no part of Froch at this point in time. I see Froch just destroying Bute again much like he did in the first fight so it really makes no sense for Bute to go for the rematch.

Ward: I hope Froch doesn’t lose his mental focus if he fights Kessler close to a holiday

froch3422By Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward never did buy one of the excuses that Carl Froch made for losing to him in the Super Six tournament last year in December. Froch claimed that he lost his mental focus for the Ward fight last year, because he was in New York around Christmas time. Ward is now hoping that Froch’s upcoming fight against WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler doesn’t happen around Christmas so that Froch losses his focus again.

Ward said on his twitter “I hope Carl Froch and Kessler don’t fight around a holiday. I wouldn’t want the big man [Froch] to lose focus three days before the fight!”

Froch still making excuses for his loss to Kessler: “I wasn’t at my best”

froch92By Scott Gilfoid: For some reason IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) just can’t seem to admit that he lost to a superior fighter than him in Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) two years ago in the Super Six tournament. Instead of just giving Kessler the props that he should be getting for spanking him royally, Froch is trying to say he wasn’t in top form that night on April 24th, 2010 in Herning, Denmark.

Froch said to Sky Sports News “I wasn’t at my best when I fought Kessler and I am firing on all cylinders now, you have seen that when I ripped the world title from Lucian Bute and defended it against Yusaf Mack with a body shot [that] folded him in half like a deckchair.”

Froch: I’ll likely be facing Kessler in May or June

froch56By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) thinks he’s going to be facing WBA World super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) in a unification bout in May or June of next year. Froch, 35, seems to be assuming that former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute won’t want to fight him in a rematch in the first part of the year.

Froch also seems to be counting on the International Boxing Federation not pressing him to fight his mandatory challenger Adonis Stevenson, which the WBA has already ordered Froch to do. Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn thinks he’ll be able to maneuver around the Stevenson fight to put that fight off until later. However, it seems it’s going to be a lot later because each time Froch talks, he doesn’t mention Stevenson at all.
