Bradley plans on boxing Diego Chaves

bradley91By Dan Ambrose: If you were one of the boxing fans who were hoping to see an appealing slugfest on December 13th in the fight between former two division world champion Tim Bradley (31-1, 12 KOs) and Argentinean knockout artist Diego Chaves (23-2, 19 KOs), you can think again.

Bradley, 31, says he has no intention of fighting the 28-year-old Chaves in the same way that he fought Ruslan Provodnikov in their fight in 2013. While Bradley isn’t coming out saying he plans on staying out of Chaves’ wheelhouse the entire night on December 13th, it seems like that’s what the case is going to be.

Tim Bradley to fight on December 13th, Diego Chaves likely opponent

bradley3By Dan Ambrose: Tim Bradley (31-1, 12 KOs) will be fighting in three months on December 13th at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada. The likely opponent is #10 IBF Diego Chaves (23-2, 19 KOs), who has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights, according to Dan Rafael.

It’s a good opponent for Bradley considering that both fighters are coming off of defeats, and Chaves actually looked a lot better than Bradley did in his recent defeat at the hands of Manny Pacquiao last April. Chaves lost to Brandon Rios last August by a 9th round disqualification in a fight that Chaves was winning at the time referee Vic Drakulitch halted it due to him seeing Chaves throw an elbow.

Tim Bradley vs. Diego Chaves possible for December 6 or 13, says Arum

chaves666664By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-1, 12 KOs) could be back in the ring on December 6th or 13th against Argentinian slugger Diego Chaves (23-2, 19 KOs), according to Steve Kim. He says that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is interested in matching two of his beaten fighters against each other.

Bradley was outclassed by Manny Pacquiao last April in losing by a 12 round decision in their long awaited rematch.

Chaves is coming off of what many boxing fans saw as a robbery in his 9th round disqualification loss to Top Rank fighter Brandon Rios last month on August 2nd. Chaves was hoping that he would get a rematch against Rios, but it looks like Arum isn’t interested in letting Chaves get a second crack at Rios.

Atlas: The ref did a horrible job in the Rios vs. Chaves fight

chaves7655By Dan Ambrose: ESPN commentator Teddy Atlas went into one of his legendary rants last Friday night at the referee job by Vic Drakulich in last week’s fight between Top Rank promoted Brandon Rios and Diego Chaves.

Atlas thinks that Drakulich lost control over the fight early and then blew it by disqualifying Chaves in the 9th round without telling anyone why he was disqualifying him. Atlas thinks that is was odd that Chaves was disqualified at a time when he was leading in the fight going into the 9th. Atlas points out that Rios is a Top Rank fighter, and that the show was a Top Rank promoted event. Atlas doubts that Rios would have been disqualified by Drakulich.

Brandon Rios wants a rematch with Diego Chaves, says Robert Garcia

rios84888By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Robert Garcia says that his fighter Brandon Rios (32-2-1, 23 KOs) contacted him from the hospital to tell him that he wants a rematch against the hard hitting Argentinian Diego Chaves (23-2, 19 KOs) because he’s not happy with the result of his 9th round disqualification win over him from last Saturday night at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rios was training in the 9th round when referee Vic Drakulich disqualified Chaves for reportedly throwing an elbow. I still haven’t seen when and where the elbow was thrown, but that was a reason for the stoppage.

Rios-Chaves & Kovalev-Caparello brings in less than impressive ratings on HBO

kovalev442By Dan Ambrose: HBO’s triple-header last Saturday night with Diego Chaves facing Brandon Rios, Sergey Kovalev fighting Blake Caparello and Antonio Novkov battling Jessie Vargas, brought in decent ratings for HBO, but far from the number of viewers they’ve seen in past fight cards.

The Rios vs. Chaves fight averaged 936 thousand viewers, making it the 13th most watched fight in 2014, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Being the 13th most watched fight on U.S television this year isn’t a good thing. It tells you that Top Rank should have placed the Rios-Chaves fight on an undercard instead of having it as a main event.
