LONDON (31 Oct) – BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546) are delighted to announce two LIVE back-to-back Golden Boy Promotions’ blockbuster events on Saturday 7th December and Saturday 14th December.
Both events will be quadruple-headers featuring six world championship fights including the most exciting and dynamic champions and challengers in the welterweight, light-middleweight and super-bantamweight divisions.
By Allan Fox: Robert Garcia, the trainer for #2 WBA, Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’), has revealed their plan to try and defeat WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) on December 14th on Showtime at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Garcia says that Maidana will throw 100 punch per round and all of them will be power punches. The theory is that if each one of Maidana’s 100 punches are thrown with major power, Broner can’t win the rounders by throwing fewer but cleaner landing punches.
By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) believes that he’ll be taking over boxing once his idol Floyd Mayweather Jr. retires from the sport. Broner patterns his fighting style after Floyd and he thinks he’ll be the one to carry the torch once Mayweather hangs up the gloves in the near future. Broner has no interest in fighting Mayweather because he sees him as family.
When asked why doesn’t he fight Mayweather, Broner said “For what? We on the same team. We keep the money in the house. After he’s done with boxing, I will take over boxing. I’m just waiting my turn.”
By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) is through for the remainder of the year after his one-sided 12 round unanimous decision decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May, according to Steve Kim. That means the 30-year-old Guerrero will have fought only once in 2013. He’ll be alright though because Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says that Guerrero, #8 WBA, could face the winner of the December 14th fight between Adrien Broner and Marcos Maidana.
That’s not the idea opponent that boxing fans are hoping that the winner of the Broner-Maidana will be fighting, but if that’s all that Golden Boy has to offer then it’s going to have to suffice. Fans want to see the winner of the Broner vs. Maidana fight to take on Mayweather.
By Allan Fox: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) has been added to the December 14th Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana pay-per-view card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ortiz, 26, will be challenging IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO’s) for his title in the co-feature bout on the card.
This is a tough comeback fight for Ortiz. Molina is no joke and if Ortiz isn’t in top shape and ready for a touch fight, we could see Ortiz losing again.
It’s a good match-up for Ortiz because Molina isn’t a big puncher and Ortiz would have a huge advantage in hand speed, power and mobility. By the time Ortiz gets in the ring, he’ll have been out of action for 1 1/2 years since his last fight in June of 2012.
By Dan Ambrose: WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) vs. Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) is a done deal for December 14th, at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The fight will be pay-per-view on Showtime, and the co-feature bout will be undefeated interim WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) defending his interim title against Jesus Soto Karass (28-8-3, 18 KO’s).
Rafael said on his twitter: “Richard Schaefer tells me @AdrienBroner vs. @ChinoMaidana is a done deal. Dec. 14 on @SHOsports PPV at the @MGMGrand. Bring it on!!! #boxing.”
Broner-Maidana will be a good fight because it’ll give fans a chance to see if Broner is for real at 147. His fight against Paulie Malignaggi last June showed that Broner might have the power or the size to compete in this division, because Malignaggi was considered by many fans to be the weak link among the 147 lb. champions.
By Allan Fox: WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner and #2 WBA contender Marcos Maidana were involved with a brief scuffle on Thursday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was mostly trash talking between them, and it appeared to be designed to attract interest in their December 14th pay per view fight on Showtime. Broner and Maidana really need to work hard to market this fight for it to bring in any real PPV buys, as neither of them have yet established themselves as PPV fighters.
By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions is working on putting together a first title defense for WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) against the hard hitting #2 WBA, Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) for December 14th on Showtime pay-per-view, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.
Maidana’s manager Sebastian Contursi will meet with Broner’s adviser Al Haymon this weekend to work on putting the fight together for December 14th.
The fight was originally talked about for November 9th, but it got moved off that day reportedly so that Golden Boy would have more time to work on putting the fight together and putting together the undercard.
By Allan Fox: Former WBA light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) isn’t predicting a knockout win over WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) in their proposed fight for November 9th, but he’s giving himself a very good chance of accomplishing that.
At the very least, Maidana expects to hit Broner a lot in this fight, and with Maidana’s power, it might not be good for Broner.
Maidana said to RingTV “One thing is for sure, I will hit him. I am sure that I have a great chance to knock Broner out.”
By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says he’s working on putting together a big fight between WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner and Marcos Maidana. Schaefer won’t say for what date in November, but it seems pretty clear that it’s the November 9th pay per view fight he’s been talking about. Schaefer doesn’t want to say anything until the fights a done deal, and it’s easy to understand that.
Maidana’s manager Sebastian Contursi said to Dan Rafael at ESPN “We are working an agreement with Al [Haymon] in order for him to advise Marcos Maidana, which we think should be a great move towards getting the best fights for Marcos, especially Broner.”
