Khan: I won’t be surprised if Senchenko beats Kell Brook

brook333By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) may not be ranked as highly as #1 IBF Kell Brook (30-0, 20 KO’s), but he still says he has no plans on fighting him until he captures a world title. Khan also thinks Brook might lose to former WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22 KO’s) in their fight on October 26th at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

We could see a situation where Khan ignores Brook if Khan gets past IBF welterweight champion in their proposed fight on December 7th. Khan would then bypass Brook and face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a mega fight. I doubt Khan would lose any sleep over the International Boxing Federation threatening to strip him of his newly acquired IBF title.

Kell Brook on a learning curve towards World Level

brook11By By Craig Hilton: Fans were recently treated to another stellar Kell Brook display as he triumphed in an emphatic Technical Knock Out victory over his bogey man, Carson Jones. It was a more measured performance from Brook as he varied the number and power of the punches in his combinations.

This fight was scheduled – in what appeared to be a relatively small ring – for ten rounds as opposed to the standard distance of twelve. These conditions were advantageous to Brook as he had struggled in the latter stages of their first twelve-round see-saw battle. Jones soaked up the early pressure and launched his attacks with greater frequency at the half-way mark. However, the weight issue appeared to aid Brook’s strength as he overcame Jones with some thudding shots and eventually stopped his man in round eight.

Kell Brook expects a sellout crowd for Senchenko fight on October 26th

brook2By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Eddie Hearn promised a big name opponent for Kell Brook’s next fight and he’s found Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22 KO’s) for Brook to fight on October 26th at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Brook expects his loyal British fans to fill the Motorpoint Arena to the brim with the big name that Hearn has found for him.

Brook said to Sky Sports “I really get up for it when I box in Sheffield. It’ll be packed to the rafters and they are really passionate fans so I can’t wait to be back in my Arena, in a big fight that will take me closer to a world title shot.”

Kell Brook has his big name [Vyacheslav Senchenko] for October 26th

senchenko3By Scott Gilfoid: Well, Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn wasn’t kidding around when he said he was going to get a big name for his fighter unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (30-0, 20 KO’s) to fight. Hearn has found Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-1, 22 KO’s) for Brook to fight on October 26th at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

If Hearn is talking about a big name in terms of letters then Senchenko is definitely the man. I can’t think of too many fighters at welterweight with a bigger name than that. This is not a big name as far as talent goes, but then again I never thought for a second that Hearn would find a big name for Brook to fight, so this is classic for Brook and Hearn.

Why would they all of a sudden break the pattern weak opponents for Brook? Brook hasn’t been with Hearn for very long, but in the time he’s been with him we’ve seen Brook matched against Matthew Hatton, Carson Jones [twice], and Hector Saldivia. Now we’re about to see Brook matched against Senchenko. I’m not quite sure why Hearn is matching Brook against weak opposition, but it makes it hard to see him as a serious contender with such a weak resume. Why doesn’t Hearn match Brook against Marcos Maidana or Diego Chaves?

Kell Brook to face Vyacheslav Senchenko in October

senchenko21By Scott Gilfoid: #1 IBF, Kell Brook (30-0, 20 KO’s) will reportedly be facing former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22 KO’s) in his next fight, according to Boxing News. I hope this is wrong, because I honestly don’t consider the 36-year-old Senchenko as a big name or even close to being a big name.

Senchenko was BADLY exposed last year in April in getting stopped in the 9th round by the feather-fisted Paulie Malignaggi. I don’t care that Senchenko beat a rusty, WAY past his best Ricky Hatton in his last fight in November of last year. I still see Senchenko, #11 WBA, #12 IBF, #13 WBC, as not being a big name at 147. He’s a fringe contender and that’s it.

Why is it that we keep hearing that Brook will be fighting a big name fight after fight and instead we see him fighting guys like Matthew Hatton, Hector Saldivia, and Carson Jones?

Senchenko out as opponent for Khan after failing to agree to catchweight

senchenko3By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko won’t be Amir Khan’s next opponent in April due to Senchenko failing to agree to the catchweight of 144 pounds that Khan was asking for, according to the Daily Star.

Senchenko, a big welterweight at 5’10”, wanted to go no longer than 146 lbs. for the fight with Khan, but that wasn’t agreeable to Khan. So instead of Khan fighting Senchenko in the UK and possibly avenging Ricky Hatton’s 9th round knockout loss to Senchenko, Khan is going to have to look at the other two possibilities that his promoters at Golden Boy have for him.

The only two fighters left are the recently beat Cesar Pablo Cano and Humberto Soto. Those aren’t very good choices if Khan’s idea is to try and prove himself. He already took on a light hitting lightweight in Carlos Molina in his last fight last December.

Matthew Hatton wants Senchenko or Malignaggi if he gets past Van Heerden on March 2nd

hatton-matthew44By Scott Gilfoid: Former European Boxing Union (EBU) welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (43-6-2, 17 KO’s) is already looking past his March 2nd fight against International Boxing Organization (IBO) welterweight champion Chris van Heerden (18-1-1, 10 KO’s) in South Africa towards a hoped for fight against either WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi or former WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko.

Hatton, #14 IBF, likes his chances against both of those guys for some reason. Hatton especially wants to fight Senchenko so that he can get revenge for Senchenko whipping his brother Ricky Hatton last year in a 9th round TKO win last November.

Khan to fight Cano, Soto, Lopez or Senchenko on April 20th

khan222By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) has four possibilities for his upcoming April 20th fight, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. If Khan fights in the United States on that date, which doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, Khan will be fighting the recently knocked out Josesito Lopez (30-5, 18 KO’s).

If Khan fights in the UK, Khan will be fighting one of three following opponents: Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22 KO’s), Humberto Soto (59-8-2, 34 KO’s) or Pablo Cesar Cano (25-2-1, 19 KO’s).

Since it doesn’t look like the fights going to take place in the U.S, you can pretty much eliminate Lopez from the list right off the bat. Anyways, it doesn’t matter even if he still was on the list because he just got trounced by WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez in his last fight and it looks silly that he’s on Khan’s list.

Khan to possibly fight at 147 vs. Senchenko

khan324By Omar Torres: Amir Khan (27-3 19 K.O) seems to be ready on possibly moving to the welterweight division at least to face former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1 22 KO’s), who defeated fellow countrymen and friend Ricky Hatton last year and ended Hatton’s comeback. Khan is planning on fighting Senchenko at the Manchester Arena in the United Kingdom. This would be the first time in two years that Khan will fight in his home soil in front of a possible sell out crowd full of his loyal fans.

According to reports from the Sun, Amir Khan would rather fight Senchenko at 140 pounds, but Khan would be prepared to move up to welterweight to face Senchenko.

Khan in talks for a fight with Senchenko for April 20th in Manchester

senchenko8By Sean McDaniel: Former two division world champion Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) is reportedly in talks with former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22 KO’s) for a fight that will take place on April 20th in Manchester, England rather than the United States. Olympic bronze medallist from Britain Anthony Ogogo could be fighting on the undercard.

The idea behind Khan fighting at Manchester is to avenge Ricky Hatton’s recent 9th round TKO loss to Senchenko from last November. The fight took place in Manchester. This would be Khan’s chance to avenge the defeat and at the same time show the difference between his talent and Hatton’s by hopefully beating Senchenko in an impressive fashion.
