By Dan Ambrose: WBC Silver junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) could be fighting for a paper title against World boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Viacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KO’s) on March 5th. Golden Boy Promotions, the management for Alvarez, are looking for him to pick up a title and are positioning for him to fight the little known 33-year-old Senchenko rather than someone more dangerous that could beat him.

Saul Alvarez could be facing Vyacheslav Senchenko for WBA welterweight title
By Dan Ambrose: #3 ranked WBA contender Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) could be facing World Boxing Association welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KO’s) in March 2011, according to fightnews.com. Senchenko, 33, is considered by many fans to be the weakest of the four welterweight champions and a paper champion. With all the hype that Alvarez has received since turning pro in 2005, you’d think that he would step up to the plate and take on a better fighter than Senchenko, someone like WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto.
Why doesn’t Khan move up and fight Senchenko?
By Neo: The quick head shot and ensuing flurry which left the referee no choice but to shield Paulie Malignaggi and protect him from further punishment may not have answered all of our questions. Can Amir Khan’s chin stand up to a powerful, junior welterweight punch? Will exhilarating speed and good movement be enough to carry this young man to the top of his division? For answers to these questions, we will have to see how events unfold over the next few years. But that remarkably capable desecration of a gifted boxer (if never a hitter) did tell us one thing: Khan has landed in the USA.
Senchenko decisions Sasaki
By Jim Dower: World Boxing Association welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (30-0, 20 KO’s) had an easy time beating Motoki Sasaki (32-8-1, 20 KO’s) by a hopelessly one-sided 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Sportpalace Drusba, in Donetsk, Ukraine. Senchenko, 31, was making the first defense of his WBA title after capturing the crown six months ago with a 12 round decision victory over Yuriy Nuzhnenko.
News – Hatton to Fight In November Against Senchenko?
By Jim Dower: Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) could be returning to the ring as early as November to possibly face unbeaten World Boxing Association welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (29-0, 20 KO’s), according to The Sun. The choice of opponent and the weight class would seem less than desirable for Hatton, because Senchenko isn’t well known and is much bigger than Hatton at 5’10” compared to Hatton’s 5’7.” Besides the height problems, Hatton would also be giving up five inches in reach to Senchenko, who has a reach of 70” compared to Hatton’s 65.”

The final judge’s scores were 116-112, 116-112 and 118-110, all for the quicker Senchenko. Nuzhnenko, 32, was cut over his right eye in the 3rd round and suffered a bloody nose in the 7th.
