Khan looking at Senchenko, Ortiz and Lopez for April fight

khan45By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) is expected to announce his April opponent this week, and he’s talking about picking from one of three fighters: Josesito Lopez, Victor Ortiz and Vyacheslav Senchenko. The good news is those guys are not lightweights like Khan’s last opponent Carlos Molina. The bad news is two of those fighters are coming off of losses in which they didn’t perform well.

Khan said to Sky Sports “Josesito Lopez, Victor Ortiz, Senchenko, the guy that beat Ricky Hatton. There are few names that we have been put there…Whoever they find for me, we’ll find out in the next couple of days.”

Pacquiao could fight Senchenko or Jessie Vargas on April 13th

vargas56020By Chris Williams: Top Rank is reportedly looking at matching their #1 fighter Manny Pacquiao against either former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22 KO’s) or unbeaten welterweight contender Jessie Vargas (21-0, 9 KO’s) next on April 13th, according to the Manila Bulletin.

Both Senchenko and Vargas are also being considered for a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez on April 20th, so it’s possible that whoever is left over after Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum make their selection will end up facing Marquez.

Amir Khan v Vyacheslav Senchenko In 2013 Makes Perfect Sense

Image: Amir Khan v Vyacheslav Senchenko In 2013 Makes Perfect SenseBy @berniesboxing: With all the hype surrounding Ricky Hatton in recent months it’s been easy to forget about the demons Amir Khan must be facing himself right now. After receiving the 2nd devastating knockout loss of his career, all the same questions have arisen.

The main one being does he have a good enough chin for this sport? Anyone who knows boxing knows, it is possible to have a successful career even with a dodgy chin. I don’t actually think Khan’s chin is bad at all; the problem is he leaves himself so open at times to be hit bang on the button. He must learn to put his head down and move in and out quickly after throwing combinations. He made Garcia look extremely limited until he got caught with one monster punch. In what was looking like a comfortable Khan victory suddenly turned into a nightmare for the young Bolton fighter.

Hatton wasn’t the same after the 4th, says trainer

Image: Hatton wasn't the same after the 4th, says trainerBy Scott Gilfoid: Bob Shannon, the trainer for Ricky Hatton, said that Hatton kind of lost it a little after getting hit with a big right hand shot from former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22 KO’s) in the 4th round. From there on, Hatton was only looking to try and get back at Senchenko and wasn’t following the game plan that Shannon wanted Hatton to follow, which was to use head movement and box his way in close instead of just barreling forward with little thought of defense.

Shannon said to thesun.co.uk “Ricky was doing really well until he was caught by a big right in the fourth round. He was annoyed with himself and couldn’t shrug it off…I lost control of him. His attitude was ‘you hurt me, I’ll hurt you back.'”

Khan has to get by Molina for possible Senchenko bout

Image: Khan has to get by Molina for possible Senchenko boutBy William Mackay: Former WBA World welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko did his part by stopping Ricky Hatton last Saturday night in the 9th round, and now it’s Amir Khan’s turn to see if he can get past little 5’6″ Carlos Molina (17-0, 7 KO’s) in their fight on December 15th at the Sports Arena, in Los Angeles, California.

Khan needs to win this fight to move forward to a potential match against Senchenko next year, unless of course Khan’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions decide to look for a little safer fight at 140. Senchenko already said that there was talk of him possibly getting the fight with Khan if he were to get past Hatton.

Don’t be surprised if Hatton makes another comeback

Image: Don't be surprised if Hatton makes another comebackBy Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton probably should have had some patience before he started flapping his gums about retirement immediately after his loss to Vyacheslav Senchenko last Saturday night because I’m betting right now that Hatton is already having second thoughts about his decision after having seen the fight and thought about it. Hatton’s British fans don’t have to shed a tear for him, because he’ll be back. I feel it in my bones. When fighters saying their retiring nowadays it frequently means little more then they’ve decided to take a short vacation from the sport.

I don’t for a second believe that Hatton is going to stay retired. Sure, he looked bad in losing the fight, but honestly he didn’t look that much different from his previous fights in his career. The only difference I saw was the lack of wrestling, his accuracy being off, as well as his stamina.

A Great Farewell to Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton

Image: A Great Farewell to Ricky "The Hitman" HattonBy Rusty Nate: Having returned from my trip to Manchester to watch the comeback and final fight of Ricky Hatton’s career I find myself once again reading bias and borderline prejudice articles (once again written by the same person).

I don’t normally allow emotion to come into my articles so on this instance I will just say one thing. Don’t even bother reading these junk articles from a so called professional writer that is more interested in bashing the fighters personally than embracing the beauty of the sport. The more attention paid the more the articles will appear.

Hatton’s trainer says the noise was too loud for him to give instructions

Image: Hatton's trainer says the noise was too loud for him to give instructionsBy Scott Gilfoid: Bob Shannon, the trainer for Ricky Hatton, says he had problems trying to communicate with Hatton last Saturday night during his fight against Vyacheslav Senchenko in front of 20,000 fans at the Manchester Arena, in Manchester, England.

Shannon told itv.com “He [Hatton] couldn’t give me eye contact in the ring and the noise was that bad when I was trying to get him to work his jab…He lost his concentration probably after the 4th round and was getting caught.”

Hatton’s comeback poorly orchestrated

Image: Hatton's comeback poorly orchestratedBy Scott Gilfoid: I got to say that Ricky Hatton’s comeback was one of the most poorly orchestrated comebacks I’ve ever seen before. It was no surprise to me in the least that he got stopped against Vyacheslav Senchenko yesterday in Manchester because Hatton set himself up for it by making a ton of blunders. Hatton was in such a rush to fight for a world title that he cut corners in a number of critical areas that led ultimately to his defeat.

The fight was pretty much lost even before Hatton stepped into the ring because he put himself in a deep, deep hole to begin with by not fighting a series of tune-up bouts before stepping it up against a world class contender like Senchenko.

Too much for Hatton to overcome

Image: Too much for Hatton to overcomeBy John F. McKenna (McJack): As happens so many times when a fighter retires former lightweight and welterweight champion Ricky Hatton (45-3, 32 KO’s) had to test the waters one more time. Hopefully after Saturday nights 9th round KO at the hands of Vyacheslav Senchenko (33-1, 22 KO’s) Hatton will retire and stay retired.

By his own admission the much loved British warrior wanted to see if he still had what it takes to perform at a high level. After the fight Hatton ruefully acknowledged that he had come up short and had the answers he needed to determine his future with regard to his boxing career.
