Mikey Garcia says he’ll face Crawford if Top Rank lets him walk away

garcia7867By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Mikey Garcia (34-0, 28 KOs) says he’ll gladly face WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) next if his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank will let him end his contract and walk away from the company so that he can look in another direction with his career.

Garcia, 28, hasn’t fought since January of 2014 in beating Juan Carlos Burgos by a 12 round decision. Since then, Garcia hasn’t fought since then due to him having promotional problems with Top Rank. Garcia wants to move on and Top Rank doesn’t appear to be interested in letting him. It’s unclear whether Garcia will sacrifice his career this way or if he’ll eventually give in and continue the remainder of his contract with Top Rank.

Pacquiao vs. Crawford could be at 140

Manny PacquiaoBy Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum wants the proposed April 9th fight between his money fighter Manny Pacquiao and WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford to take place at 140lbs for Crawford’s WBO title, according to Philboxing.com.

140 is an easy weight for Pacquiao to make because he rehydrates to 144 for his fights. He’s already right there in proximity of 140 without him having to take a lot of weight off. Crawford is going to have a weight advantage over Pacquiao anyway.

Crawford-Jean averages 1.071M viewers on HBO; Golovkin-Lemieux 797K average in replay

crawford5By Dan Ambrose: In a sign that WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) might not be a good option for Manny Pacquiao’s April 9th fight, Crawford’s fight last Saturday against #6 WBO Dierry Jean (29-2, 20 KOs) averaged only 1.071 million with a peak of 1.2 million on HBO Championship Boxing, according to Dan Rafael.

The Crawford vs. Jean fight did only slightly better than the replay of the Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux fight on HBO, which brought in an average of 797,000 viewers with a peak of 1 million. The co-feature replay of Roman Gonzalez vs. Brian Viloria averaged 505,000 with a peak of 685,000.

Arum: We’ll know who Pacquiao’s next opponent is by mid-November

Bob ArumBy Allan Fox: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he should know who Manny Pacquiao will be fighting next for his April 9th fight by next month in mid-November. Arum has narrowed it down to three fighters – Terence Crawford, Amir Khan and Tim Bradley – for that date, but Crawford is the one that he personally is talking about constantly.

It’s a decision that ultimately rests with Pacquiao in how he’ll be fighting. His adviser Michael Koncz says that Crawford isn’t the top of their list, which runs counter to what Arum is saying right now about Crawford being the top of his own personal list.

Arum thinks Crawford would have a chance against Mayweather

Floyd MayweatherBy Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says his fighter WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) would have a chance of beating undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) if the two of them were to ever face each other. Mayweather recently retired from boxing last September after beating Arum’s best fighter in his stable in Manny Pacquiao in May of this year in the “Fight of the Century in Las Vegas.

Mayweather never considered fighting the 28-year-old Crawford because he’s too much of an unknown with the casual boxing fans, and he’s mainly only popular in Nebraska and with a small segment of the hardcore fans, who prefer to see pure boxing.

Koncz: Crawford isn’t Pacquiao’s first choice for next fight

koncz888By Dan Ambrose: Michael Koncz, the adviser for Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs), says that WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) is not the first choice that he and Pacquiao have in mind for his next fight on April 9th.

This runs counter to what Pacquiao’s promoter 83-year-old Bob Arum is saying in the media about Crawford being the No.1 guy right now. Why is Arum saying that Crawford is the No.1 guy without checking in with Pacquiao himself? It doesn’t make sense and it makes you wonder what’s going on with Arum.

Arum: Pacquiao’s last fight is on April 9th

Ellerbe and ArumBy Allan Fox: Promoter Bob Arum is confirming that his fighter former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) will absolutely be retiring from boxing on April 9th in 2016 in order to focus on his political career in the Philippines. This, of course, will also depend on Pacquiao being elected into the senate in the Philippines in May.

If he loses the senate race, then it’s unclear if he’ll still retire or not. But as popular as the 36-year-old Pacquiao is in his home country of the Philippines, it’s difficult to picture him losing the senate race. The only way that Pacquiao could lose is if the boxing fans choose not to vote for him because of their desire to see him continue his pro career.

Pacquiao hits harder and is faster than Crawford, says Dierry Jean

1-LR_MAYPAC-TRAPPFOTOS-FINAL PRESSER-9963By Dan Ambrose: According to knockout victim Dierry Jean (29-2, 20 KOs), Manny Pacquiao is both faster and hits harder than WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs), who scored a 10th round TKO last Saturday night over Jean on HBO from the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

The 33-year-old Jean recently worked as a sparring partner for Pacquiao to help him get ready for his May 2nd fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. earlier this year. During the sparring sessions with Pacquiao, the 5’6” Jean got to know how good he is and what he’s still capable of doing.

Arum: Pacquiao’s last opponent down to Crawford, Khan or Bradley

pac744By Dan Ambrose:
Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum says that the opponent for Pacquiao’s next, and possibly final fight of his career next April, is down to WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford, Amir Khan or Tim Bradley depending on if he wins his November 7th fight against Brandon Rios.

The strange part is that while Arum is saying that it’s Pacquiao’s choice in who he’ll be fighting next, he’s saying that Crawford is at the top of the list. Crawford did his part to stay alive in the Pacquiao lottery last Saturday night in stopping lightweight Dierry Jean (29-2, 20 KOs) by a 10th round knockout at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The fight was televised by HBO.

The Pacquiao Lottery

1-MAYPAC WEIGH IN-TRAPPFOTOS-3699By Gav Duthie: From the day Floyd Mayweather Jnr beat Manny Pacquiao there was talk about who he would face in his final fight. We are now in the same situation with Pacquiao himself as he has confirmed his next bout will close the curtain on his career.

Unlike Floyd the fast Filipino southpaw still has something to prove before he retires so we can expect a much better opponent than Andre Berto. In the mix are the likes of Amir Khan, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Terence Crawford, Danny Garcia, Marcos Maidana and old rivals Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley.
