Will Cotto defeat the real deal Canelo?

1-cotto (1)By Ivan Godfrey: WBC middleweight Miguel Cotto looked sensational in his 4th round knockout win over the two time world champion Daniel Geale last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Cotto has looked very impressive in his last three fights since losing to the previously unheralded Austin Trout in 2012. His opponents, however, have proved to be fairly mediocre.

After his defeat to Trout in 2012, Cotto employed the help of renowned trainer Freddie Roach. However, I don’t think Roach has not improved Cotto enough to help him to defeat a fighter like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in their proposed fight in October or November on HBO.

Cotto vs. Canelo: The best fight in boxing

canelo44By Bob Smith: Due to the two recent victories of Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, they will face each other in the fall. I dismiss as speculation reports that Cotto will fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. for Cotto’s WBC middleweight title, for many reasons, but the most basic one is that there has already been an agreement for Canelo and Cotto to fight.

For me, this is the best fight because it has two peak performers at the top of their weight class who are very competitive with each other and also elite in their own right.

Will Cotto skip Canelo fight for Mayweather rematch?

1-cotto (12)By Dan Ambrose: Despite WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) talking about wanting to face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) in his next fight in October or November, you can’t rule out the possibility that Cotto could face Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) in a rematch in September if Mayweather decides he wants to pick out the Puerto Rican fighter to get a big money fight against him next rather than having to settle for a smaller payday against fighters like Amir Khan or Kell Brook.

Cotto’s trainer Freddie Roach said that he wants to see Cotto and Mayweather fight each other again, and he thinks Cotto will beat Mayweather now due to the improvement he’s made in Cotto’s game.

Roach: Cotto’s big power will win the Canelo fight

cotto1111By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach says he’s been watching a lot of video on former WBA/WBC 154 pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs), and he thinks that his fighter WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) can definitely beat the 24-year-old Canelo.

Roach understands that his fighter will be the smaller guy when he gets inside the ring with the 170+ pound Canelo when they face each other in October or November on HBO pay-per-view, but Roach still thinks Cotto has more than enough punching power to beat Canelo if he designs the perfect game plan for him to win.

Cotto vs. Canelo to take place in October or November

1-cotto (13)By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) and WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) will be facing each other in October or November, according to Dan Rafael.

This isn’t the date that the 24-year-old Canelo wants to fight on, however. Canelo has insisted over and over again that he plans on taking the Mexican dates – in May and September – for himself rather than letting Floyd Mayweather Jr. to claim them.

Canelo will be too big, too young and too strong for Cotto

canelo788By Allan Fox: You’ve got to hand it to trainer Freddie Roach and adviser Gaby Penagaricano in doing a great job of match-making and rebuilding the shattered image of Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) in the last two years.

With the careful selection of beatable opponents that have been largely over-the-hill, Cotto has convinced boxing fans that he’s found the fountain of youth and has improved as a fighter over the last couple of years. That’s not likely the case. You don’t get better in your mid-30s. You get worse. in this case, what has improved for Cotto is the match-making Roach and Penagaricano have done for him by putting him in with guys that he can beat.

De La Hoya: Canelo vs. Cotto is the biggest fight to be made now

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions President got his wish last night with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) smashing an over-matched Daniel Geale (31-4, 16 KOs) in a 4th round knockout last Saturday night.

Cotto says he’ll fight Canelo at 155

1-cotto (6)By Dan Ambrose: If you thought the 157 pound catch-weight was bad for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto’s last fight against a weight drained Daniel Geale (31-4, 16 KOs) last Saturday night, you might find it interesting that Cotto (40-4, 32 KOs) is saying that he’ll defend his WBC middleweight title against challenger Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 32 KOs) at the bare minimum weight of 155 pounds for the middleweight division when the two of them face each other in the fall, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

That might not be a big deal for some fans because they realize that Canelo has fought his last three fights at a middleweight catch-weight of 155 pounds. However, those were non-title fights against junior middleweights that Canelo dragged up to the middleweight division for him to fight.

Cotto, Canelo & Golovkin – Boxing Redemption?

By Sean Campbell: Last month, fight fans (and none fight fans) witness Floyd Mayweather Jr. clinically defeat Manny Pacquiao. In what was billed as “the richest fight of all time”, the match-up itself left the paying public feeling somewhat deflated. There was an anti-climactic feel in the days and weeks after the event.

Cotto admits he isn’t a true middleweight, Canelo Alvarez bout likely next

Image: Cotto admits he isn't a true middleweight, Canelo Alvarez bout likely next(Hoganphotos/Roc Nation Sports/Miguel Cotto Promotion) By Demetrius Luke: WBC middleweight world champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) stopped his opponent Daniel Geale in the 4th round last Saturday night in retaining his title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The 34-year-old Cotto knocked Geale down twice in the 4th round with Geale choosing not continue fighting after the second knock down.

In the post fight interview, HBO analyst Max Kellerman asked Miguel Cotto if he is a true middleweight to which Cotto replied ”What do you think”? to which Kellerman responded with ”It doesn’t look like it” and Cotto finished off by saying ”I’m not a middleweight”
