By Dan Ambrose: There is less than two weeks to go before the January 23rd fight between former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) and former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Guerrero, 32, surprised a lot of people recently with his comments about him believing in his mind that Mexicans are better at the sport than Puerto Ricans. The comments have put a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Guerrero, whose career looks to be sinking fast with him having lost 2 out of his last 4 fights.

By Dan Ambrose: According to ESPN Deportes, World Boxing Association president Gilberto Mendoza Jr. has turned down a request from Premier Boxing Champions [PBC] for the WBA Super welterweight title to be up for grabs in the Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) fight on January 23rd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The WBA reportedly is on the verge of dropping Floyd Mayweather Jr. as their “Super World” welterweight champion due to inactivity and him being retired. The WBA is said to be taking Mayweather’s titles at 147 and 154 at the end of January.

It makes sense that the WBA wouldn’t let the winner of the Guerrero vs. Garcia fight be the new “Super World” champion, because neither of them has done a lot lately in the division.

By Hector Gonzalez: Robert Guerrero and Danny Garcia will be facing off January 23rd, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. I’m reading all over the internet how Danny Garcia is the heavy favorite against “The Ghost” Guerrero. Truth be told Guerrero is a fading warrior way past his prime. I, however, believe that he has a solid chance against Garcia.

Reading some of the predictions online, I think that fans are focusing on the wrong things; fans are focusing on Guerrero’s loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Keith Thurman, as opposed to basing it on the skill set that each fighter brings to the ring. Guerrero perhaps will never be a champion again. It’s safe to say that he will end his career as a fading journeymen who should consider retiring in the near future. But let’s also keep in mind, to give perspective, Danny Garcia’s skill level is also unclear, especially after his fight with Mauricio Herrera and Lamont Peterson.

Guerrero has lost two out of his last four fights, and many fans believe that Guerrero deserved a loss in his last fight against Aaron Martinez last June. If you count that as a defeat, then Guerrero has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights since 2013. Surprisingly, Guerrero believes that his career isn’t going downhill. He thinks it’s about to start going uphill to where it was in the past when he was a top fighter. It’s been five years since Guerrero last held a world title, when he was the IBF super featherweight champion.

By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBC Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) says his plan isn’t to try and outdo what WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman did in his performance against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) when the two of them face each other next month on January 23rd at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California.

Thurman totally dominated Guerrero in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision last March in winning by the scores of 120-107, 118-109 and 118-108 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thurman knocked Guerrero down in the 9th round and had him badly hurt.

However, Thurman didn’t really start to dominate until the 5th, when he began to use movement to keep from getting hit. In the first four rounds of the fight, Thurman stood directly in front of Guerrero and traded with him, and Thurman took a lot of hard shots.
