Where Does Manny Pacquiao Stand With The All Time Greats?

Image: Where Does Manny Pacquiao Stand With The All Time Greats?By Adam McGarry: This is always hard, to predict where someone will end up in the all-time pound for pound list. Not just because of the fact his career isn’t finished, but you never ever know what’s around the corner for any fighter. With Manny fighting from flyweight to welterweight there are so many things to consider, but I’d like to try and break it down and see if we can find a place for him in history. There’s a few categories to analyze and go through with a fine tooth comb, but for the sake of it we’ll try.

De La Hoya Loses To Pacquiao For All The Wrong Reasons

Image: De La Hoya Loses To Pacquiao For All The Wrong ReasonsBy Manuel Perez: I don’t care that Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs) quit on his stool after the 8th round against Manny Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. De La Hoya has nothing to be ashamed of, because he didn’t get beat by Pacquiao on Saturday night. Instead, he screwed up and beat himself by coming into the fight so slim at 147, which as it turns out, left him weight drained, sickly looking and very weak – much too weak to fight effectively against Pacquiao.

I give him all the credit in the world. Manny Pacquiao prepared well.”

(December 7, 2008) – In a battle between Oscar De La Hoya, boxing’s top attraction, and MANNY PACQUIAO, the sport’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, Pacquiao, a 2 -1 underdog, emerged victorious last night, stopping De La Hoya at the end of round eight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

While securing his claim as 2008’s Fighter of the Year, Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs), also capped off a Henry Armstongesque year, winning three fights in three different weight divisions – two of them for world titles.

Is De La Hoya a PPV Bust?

Image: Is De La Hoya a PPV Bust?By Jason Kim: With only one win out of four huge PPV bouts, Oscar De La Hoya has been somewhat of a dismal failure on big PPV bouts with over 900,000 buys or more. For a fighter as popular as De La Hoya is, he probably should be a lot less popular than he is given his track record in huge PPV bouts. With lesses to Floyd Mayweather Jr., Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley, he has frequently come up short in his biggest fights of his career in terms of the biggest PPV buys.

Look For De La Hoya To Easily Beat Pacquiao

Image: Look For De La Hoya To Easily Beat PacquiaoBy Manuel Perez: In watching some of the sparring sessions for this Saturday’s mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya, I go to say that I don’t see Pacquiao having much, if any, chance at beating De La Hoya. The added weight that Pacquiao has put on his small frame, some 12 pounds, has had the effect of making him slower, less mobile than he was at the lighter weight classes. At the same time, he remains what he was before – namely a small, 5’6″ fighter, trying to mix it up with a much bigger 5’11” De La Hoya.

De La Hoya-Pacquiao: Has Oscar Brought Shame Upon Himself?

Image: De La Hoya-Pacquiao: Has Oscar Brought Shame Upon Himself?By Chris Williams: Whether Oscar De La Hoya (47-3-2, 35 KOs) wins or loses on Saturday against Manny Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs), he will without a doubt most likely end up bad in doing so. Given his huge five inch height advantage and his bigger frame, he’s likely to take a lot of heat from the boxing public, his fans and casual fans who will wonder how a fighter with such a size advantage could be made to struggle against someone so much smaller than himself.

De La Hoya-Pacquiao: What’s So Super About This?

Image: De La Hoya-Pacquiao: What's So Super About This?By Mark Boyles: I’ve noticed this trend forming, and it’s quite disturbing to a purist like me. The big money, marquee name fighters out there are stealing the show. This weekend, there’s more money and apparently more interest in the De La Hoya Vs. Pacquiao fight than in what should be an exceptionally good title fight in Nottingham with two up-and-coming undefeated future stars in Froch and Pascal. Call me old fashioned, but I don’t understand it at all.

Will Pacquiao Retire De La Hoya?

Image: Will Pacquiao Retire De La Hoya?By William Mackay: With the huge mega fight showdown between Oscar De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs) and Manny Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) only days away, I’m wondering whether we’re seeing the last of The Golden Boy, De La Hoya. At 35, he still talks a good game, predicting with a gleam in his eyes that one of them will be knocked out on Saturday night. However, at his advanced age, with a tired look to him, one wonders if it just might be De La Hoya who will be taken out in this fight.
