Terrence Crawford vs. Alejandro Sanabria on Garcia-Lopez undercard on June 15th in Dallas

crawford44By Chris Williams: Unbeaten lightweight contender Terrence Crawford (20-0, 15 KO’s) will be taking on Alejandro Sanabria (34-1-1, 25 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Mikey Garcia vs. Juan Manuel Lopez fight card on June 15th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Top Rank is really high on the 25-year-old counter punching Crawford, #11 IBF, and are moving him along to get him a hopeful title shot in the near future against Miguel Vazquez. Crawford is coming off of a 10 round unanimous decision over Breidis Prescott last March in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mikey Garcia vs. Juan Manuel Lopez on June 15th in Dallas, Texas

garcia22By Dan Ambrose: WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia (31-0, 26 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his title next month against former two-division world champion Juan “Juanma” Manuel Lopez (33-2, 30 KO’s) on June 15th at the American Airlines Center, in Dallas, Texas, USA.

This is a potentially tough fight for the 25-year-old Garcia because he was kind of exposed in his last fight against Orlando Salido last January in which Garcia had started running out of gas by the 4th round and looked like he wanted out of the fight by the 8th.

Luckily for Garcia, he got his way out of the fight when an accidental headbutt broke his nose. Rather than toughing it out like many fighters do when they suffer a broken nose, Garcia complained that he couldn’t breathe out of his nose, which is a fairly common thing for a fight with a broken nose. That’s just how it is, but the fight was stopped anyway.

Special Fighter and Injuries

garcia2By Tim Trout: During the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito fight, HBO analyst Emanuel Steward said that Pacquiao was the best offensive fighter he had ever seen. Pacquiao’s fans love Pacquiao so much because he delivers excitement, aggression and incredible skill with every fight. During the Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight, Pacquiao landed a six punch combination on Margarito, while Margarito’s guard was up the entire time.

There are tons of fighters out there who have talent, but very few are Special. The “Special” fighters do things the other fighters can’t do. They deliver larger than life performances. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is another special fighter. Most opponents can’t hit Floyd because he is no longer there to be hit. Dedicated boxing fans will do almost anything to support the Special boxers, because of the level of entertainment and sense of awe they provide.

Mikey Garcia: Donaire just had an off night against Rigondeaux

donaire55By Chris Williams: WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia thinks that former WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KO’s) merely had an off night in getting beaten soundly by WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux last Saturday night in New York.

Garcia thinks Donaire will be able to come back from this loss and resume his place at the top wherever he ends up fighting.

Speaking with hustleboss.com, Mikey said “For Donaire. He’s still a great fighter; he just had one of those off nights and that’s it.

Mikey Garcia vs. Juan Manuel Lopez possible for May 11 or 18th

garcia22By Dan Ambrose: Dan Rafael is reporting that a fight between WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia (31-0, 26 KO’s) and former two division world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (32-2, 29 KO’s) is in the works for May 11th or May 18th on HBO.

There isn’t a venue yet, but it’s possible that the fight could head to Puerto Rico because that’s easily the best play to stage if they want to attract a large gate. Garcia-Lopez won’t likely draw a lot of boxing fans outside of Puerto Rico unless they stage it in New York where Lopez has a lot of fans.

The 25-year-old Garcia’s broken nose has healed from his 8th round technical decision victory over Orlando Salido last January. Garcia had surgery on his nose to straighten it out after Salido knocked it askew in the 8th round by an accidental head-butt.

Let’s hope to see Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Mikey Garcia in 2013

garcia324By Ryan Wardle: Current WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia ( 31-0, 26 KOs) is coming off of the best win of his career after having defeated Orlando Salido. He scored four knockdowns in a dominating performance back on January 19th, the bout was stopped after the 8th round due to an accidental headbutt that broke Garcia’s nose. In his post-fight interview Garcia said that he would be willing to fight Yuriorkis Gamboa ( 22-0, 16 KOs), this would make for a good fight between two exciting and undefeated fighters.

Mikey Garcia boasts power in both hands, he is known for his powerful right hand and in his fight against Salido he showed off the power in his left by throwing thunderous left hooks. Garcia is also a good technical boxer who shows patience in the ring and often lets the fight come to him instead of recklessly charging his opponents.

Mikey Garcia recovering from nose surgery

garcia22By Dan Ambrose: WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia (31-0, 26 KO’s) is reportedly recovering from nose surgery that was performed last Friday to repair his broken nose from his January 19th fight against WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido (39-12-2, 27 KOs).

Garcia broke his nose when Salido’s head accidently collided with him in the 8th round. Garcia didn’t want to continue fighting with his injured nose, and the fight was halted in between rounds. Garcia had a huge lead of 79-70, 79-69 and 79-69, on the scorecards at the time the fight was halted; otherwise he’d have likely continued to fight.

Garcia clashed heads with Salido in the 8th round, and suffered a broken nose from it.

Salido broke orbital bone against Garcia

salido3By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido (39-12-2, 27 KO’s) suffered a broken right orbital bone in his 8th round technical decision loss to Mikey Garcia (31-0, 26 KO’s) last Saturday night in Madison Square Garden, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

Salido’s manager Sean Gibbons believes Salido suffered the broken orbital bone in the first round when Salido was dropped twice in the round by hard left hands from Mikey. Salido was ultimately knocked down four times in the fight, twice in the 1st, once in the 3rd and once in the 4th.

However, Salido toughed it out and wasn’t going to quit or complain to his corner, referee or ringside doctor that he had injured his right eye. By the 7th, Salido’s right eye was bruising and turning purple. It looked like it was in the process of slowly closing and it’s possible that it would have closed in the last four rounds had the fight gone that far.

Robert Garcia: I think Mikey would beat Gamboa

garcia0By Dan Ambrose: Robert Garcia, the trainer for newly crowned WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia (31-0, 26 KO’s), told RingTV he’s hoping that Yuriorkis Gamboa (22-0, 16 KO’s) will agree to accept the challenge made by Mikey to either come down to featherweight and fight him or fight him at a catch in 2013. Robert Garcia believes Mikey can beat Gamboa.

Whether Gamboa accepts the offer made by Mikey is unknown at this point but it likely will be determined by what happens with Gamboa’s negotiations for a fight with WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley.

If Gamboa can get that fight then he won’t need the smaller payday fighters like Mikey. Even though is technically a world champion now, he’s a champion in a division that’s not a real big draw in boxing in the United States. Gamboa is doing the smart thing in trying to move up in weight to get the bigger money fights at welterweight.
