Mayweather Sr: Maidana is a better opponent than Pacquiao

floyd000134By Chris Williams: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. isn’t impressed with Manny Pacquiao as an opponent for his son WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) at all. In fact, Floyd Sr. feels that Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs), Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero were tougher opponents for Mayweather than Pacquiao will prove to be.

Floyd Sr. sees Maidana as someone who would whip Pacquiao if the two of them fought each other. After watching Mayweather fight the bruising 165 pound Maidana twice, Floyd Sr. has a lot of respect for what Maidana is capable of doing inside the ring, especially against a much smaller opponent like the 5’6” Pacquiao.

garcia74By Raj Parmar: Argentinean welterweight slugger Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KO’s) is eager to step inside the ring with Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KO’s) following Garcia’s majority decision win over Lamont Peterson (33-3, 17 KO’s) last night. “I don’t care who won tonight but nobody will save Danny if we fight,” Maidana stated on his twitter account following the fight (which many disputed that Peterson had actually won), “I’ll give Danny the real welcome to the Welterweight division. Let’s do it.”

Maidana’s manager: We want Khan but he keeps refusing

maidana578By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana wants a rematch with Amir Khan, but he’s been unable to get the 28-year-old fighter to agree to fight him again.

Khan defeated Maidana by a 12 round decision in 2010 in a fight in which Khan took a severe beating. Maidana has wanted a rematch ever since with Khan, but he’s not been able to get Khan to agree to a second fight. Khan has seemingly acted like it was an easy fight for him despite the fact that he was badly hurt in the last three rounds of the fight.

Broner blames his loss to Maidana on ‘fighting for the crowd’

broner44442222By Dan Ambrose: If you had the chance to catch former three division world champion Adrien Broner’s post-fight interview last night after his victory over a very timid-looking John Molina (27-6, 22 KOs), you’ll have noticed that Broner blamed his 2013 defeat at the hands of Marcos Maidana on Broner fighting for the crowd.

In other words, the only reason why Broner lost to Maidana was because he was trying to make it exciting for the crowd rather than him simply looking to fight smart and get a victory anyway possible.

Maidana wants Danny Garcia fight

maidana52By Dan Ambrose: If WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) is able to get past his catch-weight fight against Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) on April 11th, he might want to look in the direction of former WBA light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) for a fight in the summer, because that’s a fight that Maidana and his manager Sebastian Contursi are interested in making.

It’s a bout that’s in Garcia’s best interest to take unless he wants to continue to take catch-weight fights in order to slowly work his way into the division.

Marquez, Maidana and Bradley possibilities for Kell Brook, says Hearn

maidana6By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn has doubts that Amir Khan will take a risky fight against his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook in the summer due to Khan having Ramadan. That will erase the chance of Brook facing Khan in a pay-per-view bout from Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Hearn says he’s going to move Brook forward to defend his title against possibly Juan Manuel Marquez, Tim Bradley or Marcos Maidana in the summer in a pay-per-view bout in the UK. Khan won’t be available to fight due to Ramadan.

Maidana says he’s not under contract with Mayweather Promotions or Golden Boy

maidana566By Allan Fox: Former two division champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 32 KOs) announced earlier today that he’s not under contract with Golden Boy Promotions or Mayweather Promotions. Maidana, however, is with Al Haymon, his manager, and he’s the one that helps guide his career.

That could be a positive or a negative depending on how Haymon plans on using Maidana in 2015. Thus far, Maidana has really lucked out in his last three fights because he’s fought Floyd Mayweather twice and Adrien Broner. You can’t get much better than that.

As part of that settlement, Maidana, 31, will be going with Al Haymon, the high powered adviser who many boxers prefer to use to manage their careers. Haymon is good at looking out for his fighters and putting them in winnable fights.

Robert Garcia wants Maidana vs. Pacquiao next

maidana555666By Chris Williams: If the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao can’t get made for early May like they’re currently pushing for, Robert Garcia, the trainer for former two division world champion, wants his fighter Marcos Maidana to face Pacquiao.

Garcia thinks that Pacquiao isn’t the same fighter he was five years ago, and he sees him ripe for the picking for the hard hitting Maidana. Under his watch, Maidana has improved a lot with his training tips.
