Pacquiao open to a rematch with Cotto, but at a catch weight – News

Image: Pacquiao open to a rematch with Cotto, but at a catch weight – NewsBy Jason Kim: World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is open to fighting a rematch against Miguel Cotto, according to writer Nick Giongco at MB.com.ph. However, the rematch will likely take place at a catch weight for Cotto’s WBA junior middleweight title. Pacquiao already destroyed Cotto last year in a one-sided 12th round knockout victory in November. The fight was never competitive, as Cotto was just way out of his class, too slow and unable trade with Pacquiao without getting pounded on.

Andre Ward says “Pacquiao gets hit a lot” – and picks Mayweather to win

Image: Andre Ward says "Pacquiao gets hit a lot" - and picks Mayweather to winBy Dave Lahr: You have to respect the the expertise and the knowledge of WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward. The guy knows his stuff and probably will end up winning the Super Six tournament. He seems have a pretty good eye for picking winners. In an interview of Ward by Geoffrey Ciani at East Side Boxing, Ward says “My pick is Floyd Mayweather Jr…Pacquiao get hit a lot. The Joshua Clottey fight, a lot of people complained about the lack of offense from Joshua Clottey, but when Clottey did throw his punches, he landed. We saw it on Pacquiao’s face after the fight and trust me – Floyd’s going to be doing that and then some offensively.” I totally agree with you, Mr. Ward.

Look for Mayweather to sign the contract for the Pacquiao bout soon

Image: Look for Mayweather to sign the contract for the Pacquiao bout soonBy Dave Lahr: I expect Floyd Mayweather Jr. to sign the contract that was sent over to him by Bob Arum at any moment. I think Mayweather might drag it out to the last minute, but I think he’s going to sign the contract so he can move forward and spank Manny Pacquiao’s backside on November 13th. Mayweather can’t back out of this fight, because he’s got his family and friends that all want him to make the fight. It would look bad if he was to take this fight after all the talk and the build up.

Mayweather easily defeated Marquez: does that mean Mayweather wins over Pacquiao?

By Vinz Felix: For several months now, Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO’s) and undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KO’s) have been trying to negotiate a mega fight for this November and during that same time, the fans for both camps have been voicing out their opinions over various internet forums as to why the brilliant counter-puncher Mayweather Jr. has the dominant corner over Pacquiao’s boxer/slugger fighting style. One of the biggest comparisons they have used is that Mayweather defeated Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KO’s) in their fight last 19th of September 2009 in a unanimous win after 12 rounds, landing 59% of his 490 thrown punches.

What should Mayweather’s response be to Arum’s Mid-July deadline for the Pacquiao bout?

Image: What should Mayweather's response be to Arum's Mid-July deadline for the Pacquiao bout?By Chris Williams: When you have a talented fighter like Floyd Mayweather Jr., you have to treat him with the utmost respect if you want to have an audience with him and especially if you want to fight him. This is why it’s all the more confusing that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum gave Mayweather Jr. a two-week ultimatum recently to make up his mind and decide to take the fight with Manny Pacquiao by mid July, otherwise Arum will look to match Pacquiao up with one of his other fighters Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.

Mayweather-Pacquiao fight rumored to cost $80 on PPV

Image: Mayweather-Pacquiao fight rumored to cost $80 on PPVBy Eric Thomas: There are rumors circulating around that the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao bout, if it ever gets made, will sell for a cool $80 on pay-per-view. As of now, it’s just a rumor but I can see it being a possibility with the popularity of these two fighters. I would be more than willing to pay it just to see these two fighters slug it out in what will likely be the biggest fight in boxing history. However, if the fight does go for $80, my hope is Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotions put a good undercard of competitive fights to make the entire card more interesting to watch.

Timothy Bradley says he’d step up to fight Mayweather or Pacquiao

By Jim Dower: WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (25-0, 11 KO’s) once again volunteered his services for a fight against either Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao if the two fighters can’t work out a deal for a November 13th fight. In an inteview by Stephen Edwards at Boxingtalk.com, the 26-year-old Bradley said “I would be happy to step up [and fight Mayweather or Pacquiao]. I’m taking this fight [speaking about his July 17th bout against Luis Carlos Abregu] at 147, because there was nobody else to fight. The fight with Marcos Maidana fell through and nobody was available, so I want to fight see how I feel. If I feel good, I will go back and forth.”

Will Pacquiao make Cotto fight at another catch weight?

Image: Will Pacquiao make Cotto fight at another catch weight?By Dave Lahr: I’m not even thinking about the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight happening. I know it won’t. I see Bob Arum matching Pacquiao up against his plan B option, WBA light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto for a needless rematch. I see this fight taking place with another one of those god awful catch weights being involved, so that Pacquiao will have a handicap as he goes for his 8th world title. Last time Pacquiao fought Cotto, he had a similar handicap in going for Cotto’s WBO welterweight title.

Mayweather might not like Arum giving him a mid-July deadline to accept Pacquiao fight

Image: Mayweather might not like Arum giving him a mid-July deadline to accept Pacquiao fightBy Jason Kim: Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum revealed earlier on Monday that his management team had reached a deal with Floyd Mayweather’s team for a fight, and the only thing they were waiting for was Mayweather to make a decision whether he approves of the deal. It’s unclear what the terms are for the fight, but it’s thought that Mayweather and Pacquiao agreed to a 50-50 split of the revenue. As far as the drug testing go, there’s going to be random blood testing at least up until 14 days before the fight.

Arum says Mayweather-Pacquiao have agreed to terms – News

Image: Arum says Mayweather-Pacquiao have agreed to terms – NewsBy Eric Thomas: The management for both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao has reportedly agreed to terms for a fight that will likely be taking place on November 13th. According to Sportsillustrated.com, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said that the deal has been agreed by Mayweather’s management side. However, Arum is still waiting for Mayweather to accept the terms and decide whether he wants to take the fight with Pacquiao. If Arum is saying that Mayweather’s management has agreed to the terms, it must mean that Mayweather’s wishes have been granted in terms of the contract negotiations.
