Khan has all the pressure on him, says Collazo

khan111222By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) says he’s relaxed without any pressure on him at all in his fight tonight against Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The reason why the 33-year-old Collazo doesn’t have pressure on him is that he’s not the one trying to look especially sharp in order to get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

It’s Khan who has said over and over again that he needs to beat Collazo in an impressive manner in order to force Mayweather to fight him. That belief has been echoed by Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who said this week that Khan needs to totally dominate Collazo for him to have a chance for the Mayweather fight.

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA interim welterweight champion Keith Thurman (23-0, 21 KO’s) will be at tonight’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana fight card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada to scout out the fighters in the two main fights between Mayweather and Maidana and Amir Khan and Luis Collazo. Thurman says he’s willing to any of those four fighters next, whether they win or loss, according to the sweetscience. Thurman doesn’t care in what condition he gets them; he just wants a fight against one of them.

Khan-Collazo make weight

khan5555By Chris Williams: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) and Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) came in at the welterweight limit at 147lbs in their weigh-in on Friday for their big fight tomorrow night. Khan is still hoping to steal the show with a big win over Collazo to earn him a fight against Mayweather later this year. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said that Khan doesn’t need a KO to put him in the position to get the Mayweather fight.

Schaefer is just looking for a good performance from Khan, and he feels that’ll be enough to get him into the leading position to get the fight.

Khan believes he’ll be a better fighter for Collazo bout

Khan and Collazo(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) thinks the move up in weight to 147 will help him for his fight this Saturday night against Luis Collazo (35-3, 18 KO’s). Khan has been struggling to make 140 for a while now, and now that he’s moved up 7 pounds, he expects that to give him more power than before.

“We been in the gym for the last eight months. I’ve not ate my way up to this weight, I trained my way up to this weight…you’ll definitely see a different Amir Khan come into this fight,” Khan said today.

Khan still talking Mayweather fight if he gets by Collazo on Saturday

khan53322By Allan Fox: Despite the retirement talk from Floyd Mayweather Jr. about this possibly being his last fight of his career this Saturday night against Marcos Maidana, Amir Khan (28-3, 18 KO’s) still believes he’ll be able to get a fight against Mayweather if he shines bright against Luis Collazo (35-5-, 18 KO’s) this Saturday night in their clash at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Golden Boy Promotions matched Khan against Collazo, with the chance that he might get a fight against Mayweather if he impresses fans enough and interests the huge star.

“If I put in a great performance [against Collazo], Floyd will have no other choice but to fight me,” Khan said to BoxNation.

Collazo doesn’t mind being underdog against Khan

Luis Collazo(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBA, #8 WBC, Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) doesn’t seem to mind that he’s an underdog going into his fight this Saturday night against #2 WBC Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Collazo says he prefers being an underdog for some reason. I guess it comes down to Collazo wanting to fight without pressure, and with a feeling like he has something to prove to boxing fans. Collazo’s definitely got something to prove, because he’s not done much with his career in the past 5 years.

This only going to be Collazo’s second recognizable opponent since 2009. Collazo beat the shell of Victor Ortiz last January, but before that there was a five year period of Collazo fighting guys that little known opposition.

Khan says he won’t ask Hatton for advice in moving up in weight

khan4534By Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton recently attempted to give Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) in advice about his May 3rd opponent Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s). Hatton’s advice was for Khan to avoid going to war with Collazo and to use in and out movement for 12 round. But Khan says he doesn’t need Hatton’s advice in moving up in weight, because he feels that he did a better job in moving up than Hatton did when he moved up in weight to challenge Collazo for his WBA 147lb title in 2006.

“I won’t speak to Ricky moving up wise because I think I’ve done it properly,” Khan said. “I think I’ve always been a 147 fighter who has been drained down to 140 and less. Ricky Probably underestimated moving up to 147. He probably didn’t train as hard as I have to get to this weight…I am not going o be one of the fighters who moves up in weight just by eating.”

Khan hoping to defeat Collazo in style

khan9By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) believes that his trainer Virgil Hunter has improved him in the past year, and he feels that moving up to 147 will make him a stronger fighter than he was in the past when he steps inside the ring on Saturday night against 33-year-old Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan needs a win in this fight against Collazo, and he needs to also look good so that boxing fans will demand that he fight Floyd Mayweather Jr, who will be facing Marcos Maidana in the main event on Saturday at the MGM Grand.

“[I’m] not only going to beat Collazo, but look to beat him in style,” Khan said via Sky Sports. “I wanted a tough challenge at welterweight and not just to go in there against some average guy. Collazo is a legitimate welterweight.”

Khan to try and book his $10 million Mayweather payday this Saturday

khan56By Scott Gilfoid: Amir “King” Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) will be in the ring this Saturday night in his quest to get a $10 million payday against Floyd Mayweather Jr. for later this year in September. To get this big payday fight, Khan has to beat Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) and do it in such a manner that he impresses the fans and most of all he impresses Mayweather. It’s Mayweather who Khan has to sell himself to with his performance against Collazo.

Golden Boy Promotions has the ideal opponent for him to fight in 33-year-old Collazo instead of someone that he’d be in grave danger against the likes of Shawn Porter and Keith Thurman. But in fighting Collazo, who was recently made to look good by being matched against Victor Ortiz, Khan has a better than average chance of winning the fight instead of getting knocked out.

Khan: I can force Mayweather to fight me by showing my skills and strength

khan4343By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) thinks he’ll not only steal the show in two weeks in his fight against Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) on the May 3rd Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Marcos Maidana fight card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, but he’ll also force Mayweather to fight him by looking so good in the Collazo fight.

Khan hasn’t looked good in a fight in three years since since he fought a past his prime Zab Judah in 2011. Since then it’s been one awful performance after another for Khan with him going 2-2 in his last four fights. Khan still feels he’s going to steal the show and force Mayweather to fight him by looking good against the 33-year-old Collazo.
