Collazo thinks Hatton’s advice for Khan won’t help him

khan1By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) thinks Ricky Hatton is wasting his breath in trying to give tips to Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) to help come out victorious against Collazo on May 3rd. Collazo believes that the advice Hatton gives would only work for himself and not for Khan.

Hatton beat Collazo by a 12 round decision eight years ago in 2006 in a fight that many boxing fans saw as a robbery. They felt that Hatton, the more popular fighter than Collazo, was given a gift decision. It’s hard to take Hatton’s advice to Khan seriously given that Hatton really didn’t prove that he was a better fighter than Collazo. I mean, that’s like getting advice from one of Collazo’s victims in how to beat him.

Is Collazo being brought in to make Khan look good?

collazo33(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBA Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) has a lot riding on his fight next month against Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Collazo believes in his mind that a win over Khan will put him in position to get a big money world title shot against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. But Colllazo also realizes that if he gets beaten by Khan, the loss will knock him back to square one with his career, and he’d have to start all over at age 33.

“This fight against Khan is my whole career right in front of me. I believe if I beat Amir Khan I have a bigger future in boxing, and if I don’t, I have to start from the bottom again. A win over Khan does put me in the Mayweather sweepstake.”

Can Al Haymon save Amir Khan’s career?

khan5By Poerqe: It seems like Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) has signed with the well known boxing adviser Al Haymon. This could be a very smart move by Amir and his team. Not only is it easier for Amir to make a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr now. But he also doesn’t have to earn that fight anymore.

Haymon could match Khan up with some easy fights. Khan’s team hasn’t been known to pick the best fighters for Amir. They have been matching him up with high risk, low value opponents. Like Danny Garcia for example.

Khan vs Collazo: Will it be the fight to Steal the May 3rd Show?

may11By MichelleUk: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) will be fighting Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) a month from now on May 3rd for vacant WBC Silver Welterweight Strap at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Khan-Collazo fight will be the co-main event on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maodana undercard. Khan is confident that his performance against the 32-year-old Collazo will steal the show from Mayweather and the other fighters on the card.

I think it’s a very good match up and tough fight for the 27-year-old Khan, who hasn’t fought at welterweight at the full weight, and his last performance wasn’t an impressive one against former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz last year in April.

Khan vs. Collazo to fight for WBC Silver 147lb strap on 5/3

khan43By Scott Gilfoid: The World Boxing Council has come to the rescue for the May 3rd fight between Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) and Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) by having the two fighters battle over their vacant WBC Silver welterweight strap on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana undercard at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The idea of #2 WBC Khan and the #15 WBC Collazo fighting for the Silver strap loses any meaning that it otherwise would have when you look at how low the WBC has Collazo ranked. I mean, if they’re going to put up their WBC Silver strap, they should at least make sure that it’s two highly ranked fighters rather than one guy with an inflated ranking like Khan and another guy who is a bottom dweller. I could understand Khan and #1 WBC Luis Carlos Abregu fighting for the WBC Silver strap, but definitely not Khan and Collazo. That doesn’t make any sense at all.

Khan vs. Collazo: Amir’s moment of truth

khan88By: Jeff Krugler/Dr.SweetScience: Amir Khan will be facing Luis Collazo on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Are we supposed to believe that beating Collazo will prove anything substantive to the case of Khan? Furthermore, were we at any point seriously supposed to believe that Khan was a formidable opponent for Floyd Mayweather? I’m not sure which question is a bigger joke.

At one time, Khan looked like a promising prospect in the eyes of many, but as time has revealed that was all smoke and mirrors. What we are left with is the ‘Khan Man’ who managed to look good in carefully selected fights until his one dimensional style was exposed. By the way, what was all the hype about? Do you remember? There had to be some fights that put this guy on the map right? So what were they? Who did he really beat? Let’s take a deeper look into that and refresh our memories.

Collazo wants Mayweather if he gets past Khan on 5/3

floyd62By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) has big ambitions for the future if and when he knocks Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) out in his next fight on May 3rd on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidanas fight card. Collazo wants to face Mayweather in Brooklyn, New York if he can get past Khan.

We already know that Khan is being mentioned as a possible September opponent for Mayweather if he beats Collazo, but we’ve not heard a lot about Collazo getting a fight against Mayweather. It seems to be a one-sided thing with only Khan having a chance of getting the Mayweather fight, and that’s kind of unfortunate because Collazo doesn’t seem to realize that he’s just some guy that Golden Boy Promotions picked out for Khan to beat in order to put Khan in with Mayweather.

Collazo not worried about Khan’s hand speed

khan34By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) recognizes that his May 3rd opponent Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) will have an advantage in hand speed in their scheduled 12 round fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Collazo, 32, isn’t worries about Khan’s speed, as he realizes that he’s moving up in weight to the full 147 lbs for the division, and he sees this as being a potential problem for him.

“This fight is the one that will get me back to the top of the welterweight division,” said Collazo to Sportinglife. “He’s [Khan] got great speed, but he’s stepping up to my weight and it doesn’t bother me. I’ve been the underdog all my life.”

Hatton thinks Khan should avoid slugging with Collazo

hatton34342By Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton sees Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) potentially having a really tough time against former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) on May 3rd if Khan elects to get in the trenches and punch with Collazo like he’s done in his other fights during his career.

Hatton sees that as a recipe for disaster for Khan if he tries to get even with Collazo each time he takes a big shot from him. Instead of punching with him, Hatton sees Khan as having a better chance if he boxes and uses his hand speed.

Khan: I’ll talk to Hatton to find out how to beat Collazo

hatton5555By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) says he’ll be speaking with former two-division world champion Ricky Hatton to find out ways that he can beat former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (35-5, 18 KO’s) in their match-up on May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hatton has a 12 round decision win over Luis Collazo from 2006, so Khan hopes to be able to get some good ideas from him in how to solve the Collazo puzzle.

“It’ll be good to speak to Ricky. He’s been in the ring with him [Collazo], and he’s going to know exactly what to do in how to beat him,” Khan said to BoxNation. “He’s a good opponent at 147. He’s a big 147lb fighter. He’s ranked quite highly in the world rankings. People are looking forward to finding out what I’ll be like at 147. I’ll be much stronger at this weight, because I won’t be killing myself to make weight. I’ve beaten every southpaw I’ve faced.”
