Image: Julio Cesar Chavez elected to the IBHOFBy Gerardo Granados: Some fighters are great, others are extraordinary, but there are a only a few that belong to the immortals. These men will be honored due their personal achievements in boxing, Actor Silvester Stallone, Referee Joe Cortez, Trainer Ignacio Beristain, fighters Kostya Tszyu, Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez; they were elected to be enshrined in to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, NY.

It was a no-brainer, when the candidates were announced it was clear who would be elected, and one of them had more than enough merits to become a boxing immortal, I am referring to the great Mexican champion Julio Cesar Chavez (Height 5´7” Reach 68” / T 115 – W 107 (86) – L 6 (4) – D 2).

Maybe the ones that didn’t have the chance to watch him fight in his prime aren’t aware of his accomplishments, Chavez may be the toughest fighter of his era, over all great skilled, great power and steel-chinned, the TV ratings of his fights had no parallel in Mexico, where he is considered the greatest.

Chavez was a three division champion, he held the WBC – IBF light welterweight, WBC – WBA World lightweight, WBC super featherweight titles. Chavez has a record title fights T 37 – W 31(23) – L 4 (3) – D 2 ; some hall of fame members have less than 37 total professional fights and Chavez managed to fight against some of the best boxers available while he was active.
