gonzalez5(Photo credit: Hogan Photos) By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten WBC flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KOs) has reportedly been added to the undercard of the October 17th fight card headlined by WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin vs. IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux on HBO pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Gonzalez’s opponent isn’t yet known at this time. The options aren’t that great though. The fighters that they’re looking at to pick Gonzalez’s opponent for the card is 33-year-old former light flyweight champion Giovani Segura (32-4-1, 28 KOs) and McWilliams Arroyo (16-2, 14 KOs). Brian Viloria had said to be interested in the fight, but he’s not the one that they’re looking at for this fight.

Giovani Segura says he’ll be fighting Roman Gonzalez next

1-GGG (13)By Dan Ambrose: While WBC flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KOs) says he wants to fight WBA/WBO flyweight champ Juan Francisco Estrada in a rematch, former WBA/WBO light flyweight champion Giovani Segura (32-4-1, 28 KOs) is saying he’s going to be the one that faces the 27-year-old Gonzalez next.

Having the 33-year-old Segura take the fight with Gonzalez next isn’t a great fight for a couple of reasons. First of all, #7 WBA Segura is coming off of an 11th round knockout loss to Juan Francisco Estrada last year in September.

Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Giovani Segura to battle tonight

segura45445By Gerardo Granados: Maybe the reader has grown tired of watching hug fests instead of enjoying fighters trading punches, perhaps it is too common to get to see ridiculous mismatches hyped as potential fights of the year.

Certainly fight fans must be eager to see a good fight in which both fighters are willing to trade punches since the first bell ring and to come out to win by punishing his opponent in to submission instead of just to look for to simply outpoint his rival.

Image: Segura vs. Calderon II on 4/2By Jason Kim: Ivan Calderon (34-1-1, 6 KO’s) will be going back for more punishment in a rematch with WBO light flyweight champion Giovanni Segura (26-1-1, 22 KO’s) on April 2nd at the Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. Calderon, 36, was stopped in the 8th round last year by Segura in August, and took a lot of punishment in that fight. Did Calderon quit against Segura?

By Eric Thomas: World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (34-1-1, 6 KO’s) lost for the firs time in his career last Saturday night against WBA light flyweight champion Giovanni Segura (25-1, 21 KO’s) in an 8th round TKO at the Coliseo Mario ‘Quijote’ Morales, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Sugura, use a vicious body attack and a lot of pressure to put the 35-year-old Calderon down in the 8th round. However, it looked like Calderon went down after getting hit by two body shots and then stayed down despite looking like he wasn’t in any kind of pain. Normally, when a fighter gets hurt with a body shot, he bends over or rolls around in pain.
