Groves says DeGale is “destined to fail”

By Sean McDaniel: Undefeated Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves (11-0, 9 KO’s) and British champion James DeGale (9-0, 7 KO’s) are on cruise course to face each other next as long as the contracts can be worked over and finalized. Groves’ camp has reportedly received contracts from DeGale’s promoter Frank Warren and are being looked over.

Warren says “There are few things to agree with Groves’ representative Adam Booth, but I’m more optimistic of making the fight than an Aussie opener with sun block on. The fight will go to purse bids next week if we don’t thrash things out. So it will go ahead one way or another.”

By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten British super middleweight champion James DeGale (9-0, 7 KO’s) was recently bumped up a top 10 position by the World Boxing Organization. For DeGale, a 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist, this puts him within reach of a world title shot against WBO super middleweight champion Roberto Stieglitz. However, DeGale is interested in facing anyone and says he’d like to fight Andre Dirrell, Stieglitz, Jean Paul Mendy and Renan St. Juste.

Groves, 22, is defending his super middleweight Commonwealth title against Kenny Anderson (12-0, 8 KO’s) on the undercard of the WBA heavyweight title bout between champion David Haye and challenger Audley Harrison at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, England.

As such, the fight is off and Groves’ promoter Hayemaker Promotions are looking in a different direction to try and find a suitable replacement.
