Image: Warren lookng to get signatures for DeGale vs. Groves bout - NewsBy Sean McDaniel: British promoter Frank Warren revealed that he’s looking to get signatures for a super middleweight clash between unbeaten British super middleweight champion James DeGale (9-0, 6 KO’s) and Commonwealth title holder George Groves (11-0, 9 KO’s), according to thesun.co.uk. Warren says “There are few things to agree with Groves’ representative Adam Booth, but I’m more optimistic of making the fight than an Aussie opener with sun block on. The fight will go to purse bids next week if we don’t thrash things out. So it will go ahead one way or another.”

DeGale, 24, and Warren really wan this fight to happen as both of them have been trying to get the 22-year-old Groves in the ring for some time now. At the start of Groves’ career, many boxing fans thought he was the better fighter and expected him to beat DeGale if they were to ever mix it up. However, many of those same fans have changed their minds as DeGale has looked better and better with impressive wins over Carl Dilks and Paul Smith.

DeGale looked outstanding in both of those fights, showing excellent speed, power and defensive ability. Groves, for his part, has looked good in wins over Charles Adamu, Afredo Contreras and Kenny Anderson, but nearly as impressive as DeGale. Groves was shockingly knocked to the canvas early in his fight with Anderson. To his credit, Groves got up off the deck to eventually score a knockout in the 6th, but he took a lot of shots from Anderson in the process of getting the win. DeGale looks to be a level above Groves right now, and it’s going to be surprising if Groves’ management actually takes this fight. DeGale is on his way to bigger and better things. Groves may have to settle for a lot less unfortunately.
