Groves, 22, is defending his super middleweight Commonwealth title against Kenny Anderson (12-0, 8 KO’s) on the undercard of the WBA heavyweight title bout between champion David Haye and challenger Audley Harrison at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, England.

There was a counter offer made from Groves’ promoters, DeGale says, but the fight didn’t happen. Speaking to thesun.co.uk, DeGale said “Frank made it clear he was willing to pay George very good money, and then they came back with a counter offer. But that proves he doesn’t want to fight. That’s a nice way of saying, ‘I’m sorry, but I don’t want to fight.’ I’m moving on to bigger and better things and I don’t need George Groves, George Groves needs me.

Image: Hayemaker makes counter offer for Groves vs. DeGale boutBy William Mackay: Adam Booth, the trainer and manager for Hayemaker Boxing Promotions, has made a counter offer to super middleweight James DeGale’s promoter Frank Warren today, according to news from the Telegraph.co.uk. Booth thinks there’s a bigger purse available than what was offered by Warren on Monday. Booth says “I can assure everybody that we are determined to make this fight become a reality and are doing everything in our power to bring George Groves and James DeGale together before the end of 2010.” Warren wants the fight between his fighter DeGale and Groves to take place in December.

The winner of the DeGale-Dilks fight will be taking on British super middleweight champion Paul Smith (29-1, 15 KO’s) next. Groves thinks it should be him that is fighting in the eliminator bout, saying in an article at thesun.co.uk “It’s sad the powers that be have granted my old friend James ‘destined to fail’ DeGale a British title eliminator. It may not seem like much on the surface but to me it looks like he’s being conveniently slipped in to fight for the soon to be vacant British title.”

Oddly enough, WBA heavyweight champion David Haye will be reportedly working Groves’ corner, along with his trainer Adam Booth.
