Golovkin destroys Ishida; Rabchenko defeats Nicchi; Grachev defeats Erdei; Rodriguez decisions Maderna

golovkin34By Jim Dower: In a highlight reel knockout, WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO’s) knocked 37-year-old challenger Nobuhiro Ishida (24-9-2, 9 KO’s) out in the 3rd round with a huge right hand on Saturday night in front of a stunned crowd at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Golovkin corned the 6’2” Ishida by the ropes in the 3rd, and landed a long right hand that knocked Ishida down and threw the ropes. Ishida reportedly was unconscious from the shot briefly. Referee Stanley Christodoulou immediately halted the fight at 2:20 of the round.

Golovkin had Ishida hurt at the end of the 2nd round after nailing him with two hard right hands to the head.

Golovkin vs. Ishida this Saturday in stay busy fight in Monte Carlo

k2ggg031613lunchsumioB(Photo credit/Sumio Yamada) By Allan Fox: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) will be facing 37-year-old Nobuhiro Ishida (24-8-2, 9 KO’s) this Saturday night in a stay busy fight for the 30-year-old Golovkin at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Golovkin was hoping to get contender Matthew Macklin and IBF champion Daniel Geale to face him for the March 30th fight, but neither of them agreed to face him. WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin was another fighter that they wanted to face in March, but he’s scheduled to defend his title against Fernando Guerero next month on April 27th.

If Golovkin gets past the 6’1” Ishida, which seems likely, then he’s hoping that former WBA Super World middleweight champion Felix Sturm, #2 WBA, will agree to face him if he’s given the chance.

Golovkin wants Mayweather at 155

golovin1By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) says you can add his name to the list of fighters that wouldn’t mind facing unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the near future if Mayweather were to be willing to meet him at 155 lbs.

Golovkin fights at 160 lbs, so he couldn’t come down to 147 lbs. to fight Mayweather because that would be too much weight for Golovkin to take off. However, he is willing to meet Mayweather halfway at 155 if he’s open to taking the fight.

Golovkin said to RingTV “Of course, that would be my dream to fight Mayweather.”

Boxing’s Best to the Body

alvarez922by Andrew Garewal: A critical part to the sweet science is the use of body shots. Hooks to the body can crack ribs, tear organs and expose a fighter upstairs. Straights and crosses are critical in setting up combinations to the head and establishing distance and strategy. Not only do body shots wear down an opponent, but it also limits the power and output which they can produce in later rounds.

Among fighters today, a few standout for their prolific attack to the opponent’s guts. This is my list of current top body punchers.

Golovkin wants Hopkins in June

golovkin200By Dan Ambrose: If IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (25-0, 22 KO’s) he might want to look in the direction of unbeaten WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s), who says he’s willing to fight Hopkins in June, according to Steve Kim. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler says Golovkin will face Hopkins in June at 175 without a catchweight.

Golovkin, 30, has to get through his fight at the end of the month against Nobuhiro Ishida (24-8-2, 9 KO’s) on March 30th at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco. If Golovkin can get past Ishida with a win and without any injuries then there’s no reason why Golovkin couldn’t be ready to face the 48-year-old Hopkins for his IBF light heavyweight title in June at the full weight for the 175 lb. class.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a fight that needs to be made

chavez93By Ryan Wardle: Gennady Golovkin ( 25-0, 22 KOs) is the current WBA middleweight champion and is set to defend his title against Nobuhiro Ishida ( 24-8-2, 9 KOs) on March 30th. After this fight Golovkin plans to get back on an HBO televised card, in a bigger and more challenging fight.

The problem that Golovkin runs into is that he is one of the most avoided fighters in all of boxing. This makes it challenging for him to line up a unification bout, or a big fight that would help to propel him to the next level.

Golovkin is coming off of a successful title defense against Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KOs), Golovkin pummeled Rosado for the duration of the fight, and a cut over Rosado’s left eye prompted his corner to call a stop to the bout in the 7th round. Golovkin is a very technically skilled boxer who has had 350 amateur fights. He has very heavy hands and is a calm fighter who makes few mistakes in the ring.

Sergio Martinez talks Chavez Jr. & Golovkin

martinez2By Allan Fox: WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28 KO’s) turns 38-years-old today as he gets ready for his first defense of his WBC title against unbeaten #12 WBC Martin Murray (25-0-1, 11 KO’s) on April 27th at the Estadio José Amalfitani, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.

Martinez says he’s open to facing former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. again in a rematch, but he wants him to agree to random blood testing for performance enhancing drugs before he’ll agree to face him again. Thus far, Martinez hasn’t heard anything from Chavez Jr. about whether he’ll agree to the testing.

Mosley: Golovkin & Marvilla are too big for Canelo

martinez7 - CopyBy Dan Ambrose: “Sugar” Shane Mosley doesn’t think WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has the size to compete against the likes of WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

Mosley, who lost to Canelo last year by a 12 round unanimous decision, says he doesn’t see Canelo as a big 154 pound fighter. He sees him as small for that weight class, and he doesn’t like his chances against the bigger Martinez and Golovkin if those fights were made.

Golovkin vs. Ishida: Gennady needs to take Nobuhiro out fast

golovkin45By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) will be fighting a stay busy fight against 37-year-old Nobuhiro Ishida (24-8-2, 9 KO’s) on March 30th in Monte Carlo. This is going to be a pretty one-sided fight for as long as it last, as Ishida is nowhere near as good as Golovkin.

However, Gennady can’t feel sorry for Ishida and just let him hang around for nothing. Golovkin has to take him out of there quickly in order to keep impressing fans.

Golovkin had problems taking out his last opponent Gabriel Rosado last January due to Rosado using constant movement to avoid Golovkin’s big shots.

Bernstein: Golovkin vs. Ishida is a stupid fight!

golovkin222By Dan Ambrose: Boxing analyst Al Berstein doesn’t care too much for the March 30th fight between WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) and the unranked Nobuhiro Ishida (24-8-2, 9 KO’s) at the Chapiteau de Fontvieille, Monte Carlo, Monaco. Bernstein thinks the 30-year-old Golovkin should be taking on much better opposition at this point in his career instead of facing a guy that has lost his last two fights in 37-year-old Ishida.

Bernstein said to Boxing Channel “That’s [Golovkin-Ishida] a stupid fight. We’ve not seen Gennady Golovkin against a top middleweight yet. Eventually he’s going to run out of 154 pounders to fight, and you might want to fight a 160 pounder. I think Golovkin still has to prove himself.
