Rosado has been talking about how he’s moving up in weight to take on Golovkin at middleweight, but it’s not quite as impressive now that it’s learned that Rosado will be getting a catch weight handicap for the fight. I’m surprised that Golovkin said yes to it because it’s not as if Rosado is a big name and Golovkin could have found a lot of middleweights that he could have fought without having to give up weight.

The catch weight won’t matter, though, because Golovkin is reportedly already dropping weight from the 168 pounds that he came into the training camp at and he’ll easily have the 10 pounds off by the time he faces Rosado on January 19th in New York. That’s not going to be enough weight for Rosado to get any advantage because Golovkin will be pretty much at full strength for the fight and he’ll batter the over-matched Rosado out in 2 or 3 rounds at the most.

Golovkin had to settle for fighting Rosado after the big names in the division chose not to fight him. Golovkin wanted Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Sergio Martinez, Daniel Geale and Peter Quillin, and none showed any interest in taking the fight. Golovkin’s choices then came down to Rosado and Fernando Guerrero, and Rosado got selected.

Rosado has been fighting a lot better of late ever since getting knocked out in 2 rounds by Alfredo Angulo in 2009. He’s won seven out of his last eight fights. He did suffer a loss to Derek Ennis in 2010, but he’s won his last seven fights since then.

Rosado is a brawler and he only knows what way of fighting by coming straight at his opponents. He’s going to do that with Golovkin and this fight is be a brief war until Golovkin smashes Rosado into the canvas within the first three rounds. The only way I see this fight going past three is if Rosado runs and goes into a complete defensive posture for the fight. Short of that, Rosado is going to get beaten pretty badly. The good thing about Golovkin, though, is he knocks his opponents out quickly so they don’t have to suffer for too long.

The fight will be aired on HBO, and also on the card be Orlando Saldido facing Mikey Garcia and Roman Martinez fighting Juan Carlos Burgos.
