Rosado: I’m going to shock the world by beating Golovkin

golovkin312By Dan Ambrose: Junior middleweight contender Gabriel Rosado (21-5, 13 KO’s) still insists that he’s going to pull off a huge upset next month when he faces WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) on January 19thon HBO at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Rosado is a huge underdog in this fight, mostly because he’s never beaten anyone in Golovkin’s class before, but also because he’s moving up in weight to take the fight.

Rosado has faced one puncher – Alfredo Angulo – during his six year pro career and he was destroyed by that fighter in only two rounds. Rosado’s promoters haven’t put him in with any big punchers since then and he’s done okay against the non-punchers his promoter has put him in with.

Rosado told RingTV “I’m just excited to shock the world…I know a lot of people are going to be surprised when I come out victorious in this fight, and I’m looking forward to that.”

Rosado has little chance of winning this fight because he doesn’t have the power, speed or boxing ability to win the fight. Rosado is more of a fringe junior middleweight contender being pushed up to middleweight to face one of the hardest punchers in the division, if not the hardest.

To show you what kind of trouble Rosado is in this fight, if Golovkin was facing Angulo, Rosado’s conqueror, Angulo wouldn’t stand a chance against Golovkin. That would be a sick mismatch with Golovkin destroying Angulo worse than James Kirkland did last year. I think Angulo would do another job on Rosado if those two were matched again because nothing has changed since the last time that Angulo beat Rosado except three years has gone by and Rosado has been matched against no one special since then.

In a nutshell, this is really just a stay busy fight for Golovkin to wait until some of the big name contenders/champions are interested in fighting him. Rosado isn’t on the radar in terms of the best fighters in the middleweight division and he’s going to take a beating in this fight before it’s finally halted.
