Blame Cotto and WBC, not GGG

cotto88888By Robert “Counter Punch” Elmore: There seems to be a lot of criticism of Gennady Golovkin. A lot of it has to with his selection of fighters. Some, like myself, says he should move up. But I’m not saying he should move to fight Andre Ward (who by the way still has not picked an opponent or has been in the ring in almost 3 years).

My wanting Golovkin to move up comes from the fact that the other champions will have and have not been willing to grace the ring with him.

Gennady Golovkin: The Lack of Right Approach

1-IMG_7049By Srikant Rawat: There is no one as exciting as Gennady Golovkin in boxing today. He is extremely aggressive. He has mastered the lost art of shifting, which provides him with devastating power in both the hands; allows him to be constantly in a position to land a knockout punch, and the most important thing, he gets hit and isn’t afraid to get into exchanges.

Golovkin’s fights with Gabriel Rosado and Martin Murray saw him taking some hard shots, which he shrugged off, and focused only on his offense. Not many people seem to give him credit for his chin. He doesn’t seem to get hurt. But it’s not because he doesn’t get hit; he gets hit, he walks through the punches, and constantly pressurizes.

Loeffler: Golovkin would come down to 154 for Mayweather or Pacquiao fight

golovkin45By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler says that Golovkin would move down to 154 to face either of the two huge stars in the sport in Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao. It wouldn’t be a problem for Golovkin, Loeffler says, because he’s been weighing in for his recent fights at 158 pounds.

What makes a fight between Golovkin and Mayweather or Pacquiao possible is that Golovkin doesn’t rehydrate into the 180s like some middleweights do. He comes into his fights in the low to mid-170s, which means that he basically weighs the same exact amount that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez does when he rehydrates for his fights at junior middleweight.

Golovkin wants Cotto after Monroe fight

golovkin42222By Dan Ambrose: After his win over Marco Antonio Rubio last year in October 2014, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) became the WBC mandatory challenger for Miguel Cotto. Golovkin is hoping he can get the fight against Cotto next after his bout against Willie Monroe Jr (19-1, 6 KOs) on May 16th at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin doesn’t want to sell any of his opponents short, especially one with such a different style as Monroe brings to the table. However, Golovkin’s focus is on the Cotto fight, or at least fighting for the WBC middleweight title if Cotto decides to vacate the WBC title or have it stripped from him by the WBC.

Sanchez: Golovkin is willing to fight Froch in the UK

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: If WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) is looking for a big fight later this year after he finishes healing up from his elbow injury then he might want to consider a fight against unbeaten WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs).

Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says that they’re interested in the Froch fight, and would be willing to fly over to England to take the fight if he’s interested.

Froch doesn’t have an opponent for his next, which he says he’d like to take during the summer. The fighter that Froch has talked of wanting to fight, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, is already scheduled to fight Andrzej Fonfara on April 18th, and there’s no way that Chavez Jr will be able to fight in the summer.

Is K2 hurting or helping Gennady Golovkin?

1-19By Robert “Lead Right” Elmore: Gennady Golovkin (or as I like to call him; The Tripster; Trip, and my new one Trip Hammer) has certainly won my respect. He is often accused of fighting second rate opponents just to pad his record. He’s been accused of ducking super middleweight Andre Ward; not having enough value to his name to match him against the likes of Miguel Cotto, Carl Froch, or Saul Alvarez. But allow me to clarify a few things here. One, please stop talking about him ducking Andre Ward.

Canelo: Golovkin is a strong fighter more than anything

canelo632By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is hoping he can turn his flagship fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) into the future No.1 pay-per-view fighter once Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr clear out and retire from boxing. But there’s one fighter who could ruin Canelo’s chances of striking it rich with gold from millions of boxing fans, and that’s WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

The two fighters sparred with each other four years ago Golovkin rumored to have had his way with Canelo. That was when Canelo was only 20-years-old, and he’s now 24.

Golovkin: I want Cotto, but Canelo is the guy who will fight me

1-IMG_7625By Dan Ambrose: After IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) finishes taking care of his fight against Willie Monroe Jr (19-1, 6 KOs) on May 16th, Golovkin would like to fight either Miguel Cotto or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

It doesn’t look like Cotto will be agreeing to fight Golovkin. The fighter that Golovkin thinks will eventually fight him is Canelo. Golovkin doesn’t say when he thinks the 24-year-old Canelo will fight him, but he thinks he will.

Golovkin willing to fight Mayweather and Pacquiao at 154

1-IMG_7465By Chris Williams: Despite holding down the IBO/WBA middleweight and WBC interim middleweight titles, Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) says he could easily drop down to 154 to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao if either of the two fighters were interested in facing him.

Golovkin points out that he’s a small middleweight and how recently weighed in at 158 for his last fight against Martin Murray. Golovkin says he’d be more than willing to meet boxing’s two biggest superstars at 154 if they were agreeable to taking the fight.
