Respect to Martin Murray for putting it on the line against Golovkin

1-07By Gerardo Granados: After showing great heart thru eleven rounds top contender Martin Murray (29-2-1, 12 KOs) tried his best and never quit; he fought his best but that was not enough against the Middleweight Champion of the World WBA/IBO Gennady GGG Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) While being way behind in the score cards the brave contender never hinted to try to surrender. When Marco Antonio Rubio was stopped he seemed to be not too hurt to not have gotten up for the count, but when Murray was down he found a way to continue.

Martin Murray did what not many have done and took Golovkin to the eleventh round, it´s true that the battle was not as competitive as I thought could be but it might be because there is not a single middle who can handle Golovkin’s punching power.

Yeah, it is true, just as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr said Golovkin would not be so special without his punching power, I guess that’s what made Iron Mike Tyson special too. It might be so special because you can buy many things on the store but punching power you will never find, also you will never find a heart of a lion.

Mr. Murray showed his sportsmanship and acted like a champion when he twitted: I´d just like to congratulate GGGBoxing and your team, you are an amazing fighter and deserve everything you earn in boxing.

Golovkin replied to him: Respect to you Martin Murray.

Personally I prefer the personality of the type of fighters like Ricardo Mayorga, Roberto Duran, Mike Tyson, Hector Camacho, Roy Jones Jr but few times we the fight fans get to see gentlemen who set the example to follow in prize fighting.

I want to thank Mr. Martin Murray not only for his effort but also for taking a fight against such dangerous lion. Maybe his corner could have tried to stop the fight earlier but just as former light middle WBA Yuri Foreman, Murray would not have allowed his corner to stop it.

Hopefully, after a well-earned rest we get to see Martin back in action by the end of the year. I would like to see him engage foes like Miguel Cotto or against the winner of Andy Lee – Peter Quillin.

I am sure Mr. Martin Murray earned the respect of many fight fans last Saturday. But do the readers agree?
