Roach doesn’t want Golovkin for Cotto, prefers Khan or Canelo

cotto6788By Dan Ambrose: If trainer Freddie Roach is going to be the one that makes the decision on who WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) fights next, it’s not going to be WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

Roach doesn’t like that fight. He still thinks Golovkin doesn’t bring much to the table, and he says that his last fight against Martin Murray drew only 900 people last February in Monte Carlo.

Hearn: Froch-Golovkin will be happening at the end of the year

1-01By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch, says that a fight between Froch and WBA 160 pound champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) will be taking place at the end of this year. Hearn sees it as a “high-risk” fight for Froch, but he also thinks it’s an interesting match-up due to the style match-up with two sluggers going at it.

The unfortunate thing about the Froch-Golovkin fight is that by the time it takes place, Froch may no longer have his WBA title if he faces WBA Super World super middleweight champion Andre Ward, because this is a guy that will likely whip Froch by a lopsided decision.

Cotto: My career doesn’t depend on Gennady Golovkin

cotto6788By Dan Ambrose: In a clear sign that he likely won’t be fighting WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) anytime soon, WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) says that his career doesn’t depend on a fight against Golovkin, and that he’s going to have to wait like other fighters do for a chance at fighting him.

In the meantime, Cotto says he’s going to do what’s good for Miguel Cotto, and that he’ll be looking to get the biggest names for his next fight on June 6th. The name that has been mentioned as the leading candidate for Cotto’s next fight is 41-year-old Cornelius Bundrage, who is not exactly a big name in the U.S or in the boxing world.

Does Golovkin need Cotto’s WBC middleweight belt?

1-10By Gerardo Granados: A couple of day ago a friend asked if I knew the meaning of lineal champion, I think he couldn’t sense my sarcasm when I asked him if he could list the “current 17 division lineal champs”. The reader must know it is really hard or almost impossible to know which are the names on lineage of the eight original lineal champions until today.

If you add the extra weights and try to name a lineage on the new weight divisions until today you´ll get confused trying to figure out how an interim belt holder was promoted to the full regular champion status without fighting for the belt or when was the regular promoted to super champion.
