Roach: Marquez will have to fight Pacquiao at 147 – no catchweight

Image: Roach: Marquez will have to fight Pacquiao at 147 - no catchweightBy Chris Williams: If WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez wants a third fight with Manny Pacquiao, he can pretty much forget about a catchweight to help bridge the gap between his current fighting weight of 135 and the 147 lbs that Pacquiao is currently fighting at. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach says that Marquez would have to move up in weight to 147 without the benefit of a catchweight, even though Pacquiao has used them in fights with Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito to capture major titles.

Roach hoping Mosley’s advanced age will bring Pacquiao to victory

Image: Roach hoping Mosley's advanced age will bring Pacquiao to victoryBy Eric Thomas: Freddie Roach is reaching for any angle he can get to have his fighter Manny Pacquiao get another victory on his resume. This Saturday, Pacquiao faces another well known star in 39-year-old Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach is counting on Pacquiao adding Mosley’s scalp to his resume and sees it as a feather in Pacquiao’s cap if he can get the win, especially if it’s a knockout victory. Never mind the fact that Mosley is pushing 40 now and hasn’t won an actual fight in two years. Roach will take a victory any way he can get it.

Roach willing to bet that Pacquiao beats Mosley

Image: Roach willing to bet that Pacquiao beats MosleyBy Chris Williams: If trainer Freddie Roach has his way his fighter Manny Pacquiao will knockout the 40ish Shane Mosley next Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach wants a knockout win to somehow show how much better Pacquiao is than Floyd Mayweather Jr., who recently beat Mosley by a lopsided 12 round decision. But even if Pacquiao does score a knockout, he’s probably going to get hit a lot and not come look better than Mayweather.

Roach: The only way Mosley can beat Pacquiao is if he gets dirty

Image: Roach: The only way Mosley can beat Pacquiao is if he gets dirtyBy Erik Thomas: Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach thinks the only way that 39-year-old Shane Mosley can beat Pacquiao next month is if Mosley fights dirty. Roach doesn’t say what exactly he means by saying that Mosley’s only chance of winning is by fighting dirty, as Mosley isn’t a particularly dirty fighter. In looking at Mosley’s past fights, the only thing that comes close to him fighting dirty is his bout against Antonio Margarito where Mosley used a punch and grab technique to shut Margarito’s offense down.

Roach badly wants Pacquiao to KO Mosley

Image: Roach badly wants Pacquiao to KO MosleyBy Chris Williams: Freddie Roach badly wants his fighter Manny Pacquiao to make a statement next month in their fight against the struggling 39-year-old Shane Mosley by knocking him out and putting on a better performance than the one that Floyd Mayweather Jr. did when beating up Mosley last year. Pacquiao, once again, is fighting one of Mayweather’s leftover opponents if for no other reason than he has a recognizable name to the public and to try and top what Mayweather did to Mosley.

Roach hoping Pacquiao will be the first to stop Mosley

Image: Roach hoping Pacquiao will be the first to stop MosleyBy Chris Williams: Freddie Roach is hoping his fighter Manny Pacquiao will stop soon to be 40-year-old Shane Mosley in their mega fight next month on May 7th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. If this were a prime Mosley, Roach’s dream of a knockout would be all but impossible. Indeed, there would be a good chance that the fighter getting knocked out would be Pacquiao, not Mosley. However, Roach and company have done well to wait until Mosley is old and tired and not nearly the fighter he once was.

Did Roach fail Chavez Jr. in his last fight with Lyell?

By Dan Ambrose: If you look at the condition that unbeaten middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) was in for his last fight this past weekend against journeyman Billy Lyells (22-9, 4 KO’s), it’s hard to miss the fact that Chavez Jr. looked kind of flabby and out of shape compared to his form a year ago in his impressive win over John Duddy in June 2010. Chavez Jr., the WBC Silver middleweight champion, reportedly came in four pounds over the 160 pound weight limit for his fight against the smallish Lyell.
