Roach was clueless about Pacquiao being hurt by Margarito in the 6th
By Dave Lahr: Trainer Freddie Roach didn’t have a clue that his fighter Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KO’s) was badly hurt by Antonio Margarito in the 6th round of their fight in November 2010. Margarito, not a big puncher, nailed Pacquiao with two hard left hooks to the body that had Pacquiao clearly hurt and about to drop to the canvas in agony. How Roach could have not seen this is strange given that it was seen by pretty everyone and Roach was right there at the ring apron and should have spotted it.
Who is the best trainer in boxing right now?
By Allen Hmiel: Fighters have special talents and skills that enable each boxer to maximize their talents. Some fighters progress naturally and make the use of their given talents and skills and instincts to move up the ladder of success. But no fighter is that good to not take advantage of additional learning and skills that a shrewd skillful trainer can provide. A great boxing trainer brings out the best in his fighter and develops new strategies that place his fighter in the best position to win.
Roach: Khan is my next Manny Pacquiao, the next pound-for-pound greatest fighter in boxing
By Dan Ambrose: Freddie Roach sounds as if he’s ready to bet everything that his fighter World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) will be the next biggest thing in boxing. Whether he is or isn’t could be partially determined tonight when he fights the hard hitting Argentinian Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both Roach and Khan seem to have adopted an identical swagger and way of speaking where they’re already talking as if the Maidana fight is won and are looking down the road towards winning the unification bout against the winner of the Timothy Bradley – Devon Alexander bout and fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Margarito makes fun of Roach, and he doesn’t like it
By Chris Williams: According to the latest boxing news, trainer Freddie Roach is upset with being teased by Antonio Margarito recently in a video at Fanhouse. Apparently, Roach was teased by Margarito and boxer Brandon Rios, AP reports, which they say makes fun of Roach’s Parkinson condition. Margarito apparently imitated Roach by moving his hands in a shaking way and making a face while doing so. Roach was said to be upset about it. Roach has been pretty open about his thoughts about on Margarito’s hand wrap scandal, as he’s constantly talked about this issue to the media and not let it die.
Roach: “I would never take a fight which I think my fighter couldn’t win” – Does that mean he cherry picks for Pacquiao?
By Dave Lahr: Trainer Freddie Roach made a starting revelation about his habit of picking out opponents for his fighters. In an article at Philstar.com, Roach says “I would never take a fight which I think my fighter couldn’t win.” Very interesting. Does that mean that Roach cherry picks opponents for his fighter Manny Pacquiao? I mean, if you never take a fight that you don’t think your fighter can win, then doesn’t that kind of mean that Roach is cherry picking? I guess that would explain why Pacquiao still hasn’t fought Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams. Pacquiao for some reason hasn’t fought those guys. Instead. he’s taken on Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, and Joshua Clottey recently.
Roach interested in training Chad Dawson
By Jim Dower: Trainer Freddie Roach is interested in training former two-time light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-1, 17 KO’s), according to boxing news from Chris Mannix of Sportsillustrated.com. Roach has reportedly spoken to representatives of Dawson about training Dawson for his next bout. Roach is said to be considering the job but has some concerns about how dedicated Dawson is towards boxing. Dawson, 28, was defeated for the first time in his career by WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal by an 11th round technical decision on August 14th. It was a fight that was a winnable one for Dawson, but he just didn’t throw enough punches in the fight.
Roach likes the idea of Pacquiao fighting Marquez
By Dan Ambrose: Freddie Roach would like to see Manny Pacquiao fight Juan Manuel Marquez for a third time, according to an interview by Michael Wood at thesweetscience.com. Roach likes the idea, but apparently Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has other ideas for Pacquiao starting with a fight against Antonio Margarito on November 13th.
Roach to replace Lennox Lewis on HBO broadcasting team
By Eric Thomas: Famous trainer Freddie Roach will reportedly be replacing Lennox Lewis on the HBO broadcasting team for boxing action, according to Secondsout. The 44-year-old Lewis failed to have his contract renewed by HBO and has already taken part in his last fight, the HBO telecast of Chris Arreola vs. Tomasz Adamek that took place on April 24th. Lewis had been with HBO since 2006. Roach, 50, is famous for training fighters like Manny Pacquiao, James Toney and Amir Khan. The HBO executives have liked what they’ve seen of Roach in the HBO 24/7 series and decided to sign him up.
Roach plans on having Pacquiao attack Clottey’s body
By Esteban Garduno: Trainer Freddie Roach has come up with another one of his masterful strategies for his pupil WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in his upcoming March 13th fight against Joshua Clottey. In an article at Fight Fan, Roach says “He’s [speaking of Clottey] got a good chin and so forth, but nobody has tested his body as much as we well. People with good chins don’t always take it into the body.” You think? Thank you for telling me something I don’t know, Freddie. As far as I can tell, Clottey was already exposed for having problems taking shots to the body in his fights against Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto.
