Lara wants Canelo-Trout winner or Mayweather

lara212By Allan Fox: #1 WBC junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara (17-1-2, 11 KO’s) has his sights set on fighting the winner of the April 20th unification bout between WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBA champion Austin Trout. Lara also wants to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. is possible.

Lara, 29, has to get past #9 WBC Alfredo Angulo (22-2, 18 KO’s) in their fight on June 8th in Carson, California, but if Lara can win that fight then he’ll definitely be in line to face the Canelo vs. Trout winner.

Lara said to RingTV “If I could pick my next three fights, it would first start with the winner of the fight between Canelo Alvarez-Austin Trout, and then I would want to fight…Floyd Mayweather.”

Mayweather: I’m picking Donaire to KO Rigondeaux

donaire2221By Chris Williams: The April 13th fight between WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s ) and Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) is really a toss-up fight because all the things that we’ve learned in watching Donaire’s previous 32 fights won’t apply in this bout because Donaire has never faced a fighter with the counter and body punching combination. The fight may be a toss-up but Floyd Mayweather Jr. is under the impression that Donaire will defeat Rigondeaux by knockout.

Mayweather Jr. said on his social media site “People won’t like but I’ll put out there @filipinoflash (Donaire) will win via KO.”

Guerrero with good excuse if Mayweather beats him

guerrero2323By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero’s recent arrest for possession of a firearm at the JFK airport in New York may be seen in a negative light, but it does provide the 29-year-old Guerrero one thing and that’s a valuable excuse to make should he get totally dominated by Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) in their fight on May 4th on Showtime/CBS pay-per-view.

Guerrero can say that the reason he lost to Mayweather because he wasn’t entirely focused after his arrest for carrying a pistol and three high capacity magazines. Who would blame Guerrero if he did come up with that excuse? He’s facing a possible four maximum stint in prison if convicted on the felony charge of possession of an unlicensed weapon in New York.

Sergio Martinez’s manager says Mayweather fight is impossible now

martinez434By Dan Ambrose: With Floyd Mayweather Jr. now fighting on Showtime instead of HBO, Sampson Lewcowicz, the manager for WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, says that a fight between Martinez and Mayweather is now out of the realm of possibilities due to the two fighters being on different networks.

Lewcowicz said to ESPNDeportes.com “No chance, absolutely none. He (Mayweather) is on Showtime and HBO us.”

It probably doesn’t matter what network Mayweather fights on, he’s not going to move up to middleweight to fight the 38-year-old Martinez and he’s not going to fight Gennady Golovkin either.

Mosley: Mayweather was better than Broner at 23

mayweather5574567By Allan Fox: Shane Mosley feels that Floyd Mayweather Jr. was a better fighter at 23 compared to the Mayweather clone WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 23 KO’s), who is now 23 and is constantly being compared to Mayweather due to his similar fighting style.

Mosley said to the boxingchannel.com “Both are good fighters. Floyd was tremendous at 23. He was very fast, very smart. He was born in a boxing family.”

I’m not a Pactard or a Floydiot. I’m a Marquez fan!!!

marquez89By Hector Gonzalez: When Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Manny Pacquiao IV took place I was rooting for Pacquiao to win. My logic was that even though Marquez had, at least in my eyes, defeated Pacquiao in fights 2 and 3, the best thing that could happen to boxing is Pacquiao vs Mayweather and in order for that to happen Pacquiao had to first get through Marquez.

Now after the fact, having seen Marquez TKO Pacquiao, it has made me have a greater appreciation for Marquez and his contribution to boxing, the greatest boxing moment of our generation; and while Pacquiao vs Mayweather is just a fragment of our imagination, Marquez’s TKO over Pacquiao is no imagination, it’s reality.

Marquez has always been the underdog and even in talks about a 5th fight with Pacquiao some fans still see Marquez as the underdog, I find that puzzling.

Mayweather’s “30 DAYS IN MAY” – airs tonight at 10PM ET/PT on SHOWTIME

YouTube video
Allan Fox: Showtime will be televising the Floyd Mayweather Jr. documentary “30 days in May” tonight at 10 p/m. ET/PT. the documentary documents Mayweather’s 30 days he spent in a Las Vegas, Nevada jail last year for a domestic disturbance.

It seems to me that Showtime would be better off doing a documentary on Mayweather’s upcoming fight with Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero rather than going over old ground that would be better off forgotten by Mayweather and the boxing public. If the idea is to help promote the fight it doesn’t seem to work.

Canelo: Guerrero can beat Mayweather with pressure and by outworking him

guerrero123By Eric Thomas: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez thinks Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) will beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) on May 4th if he puts steady pressure on the 36-year-old Floyd and if he is able to outwork him by throwing more punches than him in every round.

It’s obviously said than done because this strategy has been tried by other fighters and it’s always failed, yet it continues to be the plan that many fighters and trainers talk about when explaining how to beat Floyd.

Canelo said to esnewsreporting.com “Be intelligent and use constant pressure. Also, outwork Floyd but with intelligence because Floyd is great at counter-punching. I think with pressure and constant punching Guerrero can win.”

Jeff Mayweather not impressed with Robert Guerrero

guerero11By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s uncle Jeff Mayweather doesn’t see anything special in WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) and he thinks the 29-year-old Guerrero is going to have major problems against Mayweather Jr. on May 4th in their Las Vegas, Nevada-based fight on Showtime.

Mayweather is sparring with guys that are bigger than Guerrero and equally good at putting pressure on him, and Mayweather is easily handling them.

Who has had the greater success against Floyd Mayweather?

floyd45342By Craig Hilton: It’s difficult for any trainer to devise a strategy for beating Floyd Mayweather Junior (43-0) as he adjusts to his opponents’ every move. Recently, I’ve taken time to watch the most competitive Mayweather fights. I’d like to discuss his opponents’ level of success under four key areas: Jab, Combinations and Hand Speed; Head Movement; Footwork and Endurance.

Jab, Combinations and Hand Speed

It has been well documented that Mayweather’s style requires opponents to mount attacks with the jab. The jab keeps a counter puncher like Mayweather occupied, denying him time to think and counter as easily.
