Mayweather: This fight [against Guerrero] is already sold because of me

floyd6By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t feel the need to out and market his upcoming May 4th fight against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero because he feels like the fight is already guaranteed to be a huge success just because he’s in it.

Mayweather thinks that Guerrero should be the one that works hard to build up interest in the fight because he hasn’t made it to the next level.

Mayweather said to Showtime: “What does it take to sell this fight? The fight is sold already because of me. It’s a Mayweather weekend, it’s a Mayweather show. Robert Guerrero, only thing he has to do is just show up.”

Mayweather already at 148 lbs with less than 30 days to Guerrero fight

floyd#3By Chris Williams: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero recently weighed in at 159 lbs for his 30-day weigh-in for his May 4th fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather weighed in at 148 lbs, only 1 pound over the limit.

What this suggests is that Guerrero is going to lose water weight during the week of the fight to get down to 147 and then rehydrate back up to near 160, while Mayweather will be right at 147 for the fight.

The weight that Mayweather is at now suggests that he could easily fight at 140 if he wanted to and have an advantage over the top guys at that weight like Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia, Amir Khan, Lamont Peterson and Zab Judah.

Mayweather: This is the longest I’ve trained for any fight

floyd#1By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) is vowing to be in the best shape of his life when he meets WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) on May 4th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Instead of getting worse with age, Mayweather sees himself getting better at 36, and he’s worked harder in this training camp than in any previous camp.

Mayweather hasn’t fought in a year and he needs to train hard to make up for lost time so that his fight with Guerrero will be a lot easier than his last one was against junior middleweight Miguel Cotto last May.

Guerrero: Mayweather’s legs are starting to get slower; he knows it

guerrero112By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) is convinced that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) has lost a couple of steps and isn’t the same fighter he once was in his prime.

Guerrero believes that Mayweather has slowed down enough to where he’s now ready to be taken down and beaten for the first time in his 17-year pro career.

Guerrero said “His legs are starting to get slower. He’s not moving the way he used to. He knows.”

Mayweather-Guerrero All Access on Wednesday night, April 10th, 10 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime

YouTube video
By Chris Williams: The five-part series titled Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert Guerrero will be televised on Wednesday night on Showtime at 10 p.m ET/PT. This series is Showtime’s equivalent of HBO’s 24/7 episodes they like to out together for mega pay per view fights to draw interest from boxing fans.

The main difference I see between the two of them is that Showtime’s version is a little rawer, more real and less sentimental and corny. HBO seems to overdo the family aspect and they seem to get away from why boxing fans are really tuning in to see the episodes.

Mayweather: I’m ready to dish it out against Guerrero

1328(Photo Credit: John Filo/SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is anxious to get back in the ring after having sat out of action for a year now since beating Miguel Cotto last May. Floyd will be facing Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 4th in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mayweather says he’s ready to punish Guerrero and do what he has to do to get the ‘W’ in this Showtime pay per view bout.

Mayweather Jr. said as quoted by fightnews.com “I am going to dish it out against Robert Guerrero on this one. I am going to be the Mayweather that is active…I am not really worried about what he can do. He needs to worry about what I can do.”

Guerrero is like an open book. You know exactly what the guy is going to do because he fights the same way each time he fights. He’s not someone that can box and he definitely doesn’t adapt to changing situations in the ring.

Mayweather: Boxing fans are buying PPV to see me

1325(Photo Credit: John Filo/SHOWTIME) By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. feels that it pretty much doesn’t matter who he faces because boxing fans will pay to see his fights because he’s involved. Mayweather Jr. is fighting Robert Guerrero on May 4th, and Mayweather freely acknowledges that he wasn’t too familiar with the 29-year-old Guerrero before he picked him out, but it won’t stop boxing fans from paying to see the fight in high numbers on May 4th on Showtime/CBS from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather said to Mlive.com “I barely know who Robert Guerrero is. People buying pay per view, they’re buying just to see Floyd Mayweather. I’ve earned the right to choose whoever I want. Nobody’s forced to watch it…I’m really not worried.”

That’s bad news if your WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez because he’s hoping that Mayweather Jr. will look his way and decide he has to get a fight with him in the near future because of how big the fight would be and how much money it would make. But Mayweather is saying he can choose whoever he pleases and fans will either watch it or won’t and he doesn’t seem worried at all about it.

mayweather223By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. was interviewed today by CBS Sports and he discussed his upcoming May 4th fight against WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and he also explained one of the reasons why a fight between him and Pacquiao hasn’t been made as of yet.

Mayweather said to CBS Sports today: “I feel good. I’ve been off a year now. I want to go out there and give fans what they want to see. Robert Guerrero, he’s a solid, solid tough competitor. De La Hoya: Mayweather is scared of Canelo

alvarez45By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions seems to be bummed out that Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t fight one of De La Hoya’s Golden Boy stable fighters in WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s), so now De La Hoya is saying the reason why Mayweather doesn’t want to is because he’s afraid of fighting Canelo.

De La Hoya told esnewsreporting.com “Unfortunately, Floyd didn’t want to sign a contract in advance to fight Canelo. So ask yourself this: Is Floyd scared to fight Canelo? I think he is…in order to beat Mayweather you don’t need to be a strong fighter; you need to be a smart fighter, which Canelo is.”
