Floyd Mayweather Jr. media day quotes

may34“It’s obvious he did something right. He bit down, he dedicated himself to his craft, which is boxing, he stayed focus; he listened to his corner. Now he has the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. My job is to go out there and be the best Floyd Mayweather Jr. and give the fans what they want to see and give record breaking numbers. I could care less about his joking.

No one has a blue print in how to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. I don’t think the layoff will hurt me. I’ve faced every style, so it’s not hard for me to make adjustments. I have to go out there and see what game plan my dad has in store for me. My dad is back in camp and we’re going strong. I felt like in the Miguel Cotto fight I got hit too much.

Trout: Guerrero will give Mayweather a lot of problems

guerrero12By Allan Fox: WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout sees unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. having great difficulties in trying to figure out a way to beat Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 4th.

The reason being Trout sees Guerrero as being able to do a lot of different things in the ring and adapt when things aren’t working out well for him. He can fight on the inside, throw a lot of punches, rough Mayweather up, and fight well on the outside to take advantage of his long reach and southpaw stance.

Bernstein: Will Guerrero rough up Mayweather on May 4th?

guerrero322By Dan Ambrose: Showtime analyst Al Bernstein wonders whether WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) will be able to rough up, smother and take the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) out of his game in their fight in two weeks in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Guerrero is coming off of a fight where he roughed up former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto all night and was able to successfully get away with it with a referee failing to do anything other than warn Guerrero.

A look at the upcoming fights in 2013: Mayweather-Guerrero, Fury-Cunningham, more!

floyd91By James Sexton: 2013 started off a little sluggishly, but has really picked up recently. We were treated to several real intense match-ups such as Rios-Alvardo 2, Bradley-Provodnikov, and Donaire-Rigondeaux. However I feel some of the upcoming fights this year are going to be real gems to watch and our view of some of the current ‘prospects’ is going to have changed once it is all said and done.

We have Tyson Fury’s latest outing against Steve Cunningham. A win here could propel Fury that one step closer to a fight for a world title. Although I have been highly critical of Furys chosen opposition, I am pleased to say I feel he is moving in the right direction and if it isnt in this fight, it will be one of his next few which will really show where he belongs to be rated in the heavyweight division.

The Marquez that knocked out Pacquiao is the only fighter who could give Mayweather problems

floyd77By Rob Blakeman: When Manuel Marquez fought Floyd Mayweather back in September 2009 his physique was soft and in all probability he had not had to stick to a rigid diet regime as he would have previously in all of his years as a fighter because for this fight he was able to relax and be at his heaviest ever for a fight.

In all of his previous encounters he would trim and lose weight during training camp to be on the money for the title shot fights and defences that he took-but not this time, and that probably took something of the edge out of him. He had not at that time chose to use progressive weight training to add poundage of lean muscle mass as was the secret of so many other greats such as Holyfield and Roy Jones for example who always looked cut and hard even when putting on weight for fights.

Guerrero gets Mayweather fight: Can he take advantage of it?

guerrero1By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1, 18 KO’s) has the big money title shot that he’s been asking for against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) on May 4th, but now the question is can Guerrero take advantage of his opportunity because this may be his only shot at a mega fight in his career.

If he can’t beat Mayweather then that’s likely going to be Guerrero’s only opportunity because Mayweather isn’t going to bother fighting him again if he beats him, especially when Mayweather is the one bringing in all the fans for this fight.

Guerrero may luck out and get a title shot against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in the future if Guerrero is willing to move up in weight to fight Canelo at 154 and if Canelo doesn’t get beaten by WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout this month on April 20th.

Victor Ortiz: If Mayweather won’t fight me again then I want Tim Bradley

ortiz5By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) was hoping that WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. would look his way to give him a rematch after Ortiz was stopped in the 4th round by him two years ago in September 2011.

Thus far, Mayweather hasn’t been eager to get Ortiz back in the ring to give him a rematch, but Ortiz still remains hopeful that he’ll look his way in the near future now that Mayweather has signed a 6-fight deal with Showtime/CBS.
