“It’s obvious he did something right. He bit down, he dedicated himself to his craft, which is boxing, he stayed focus; he listened to his corner. Now he has the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. My job is to go out there and be the best Floyd Mayweather Jr. and give the fans what they want to see and give record breaking numbers. I could care less about his joking.
No one has a blue print in how to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. I don’t think the layoff will hurt me. I’ve faced every style, so it’s not hard for me to make adjustments. I have to go out there and see what game plan my dad has in store for me. My dad is back in camp and we’re going strong. I felt like in the Miguel Cotto fight I got hit too much.
I’ve got to be smarter, listen to my corner. I’m not saying I didn’t listen to my corner during the Miguel Cotto fight. Miguel Cotto came into the fight a super middleweight. Floyd Mayweather is a welterweight, and I wanted Cotto to be at his best weight and his best weight is 154. He was solid, he was strong. I knew Miguel Cotto wasn’t a pushover.
We can’t say what the game plan is, but the game plan is go out there and be smart and win. Floyd Mayweather is a winner. I like to go out there and entertain and that’s what it’s about.
