Trout: Guerrero will give Mayweather a lot of problems

guerrero12By Allan Fox: WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout sees unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. having great difficulties in trying to figure out a way to beat Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 4th.

The reason being Trout sees Guerrero as being able to do a lot of different things in the ring and adapt when things aren’t working out well for him. He can fight on the inside, throw a lot of punches, rough Mayweather up, and fight well on the outside to take advantage of his long reach and southpaw stance.

Mayweather won’t be able to use his shoulder roll with the same kind of effectiveness as he has in his past fights because he’ll be leaning in the direction of Guerrero’s left hand.

Mayweather will have to make a lot of adjustments to his fighting stance if he doesn’t want to end up like Andre Berto did in losing to Guerrero last November.

Trout said to Bleacherreport.com: “I think Guerrero’s going to give Mayweather a lot tougher time than people expect…He can find ways to win. I think he’s going to make it really uncomfortable for Mayweather.”

Trout is very familiar with both Mayweather and Guerrero, which is why he sees Mayweather potentially having so many problems with Guerrero in this fight.

I’m sure that Trout would pick Mayweather by a landslide if this were a 25-year-old version of him, but he’s not 25 anymore and he’s really slowed down with his hands and feet and he can’t do what he once did 11 years ago.

Mayweather is a stationary fighter now and that’s not the kind of fighter you want to be against active fighter like Guerrero with his high work rate. Guerrero is far from unbeatable, but it’s going to take a special fighter to beat him at 147.

Mayweather has been special for a long time but he didn’t look that way last May in his win over Miguel Cotto, and he’s not fought since then. The time off can’t have helped Mayweather’s game any and he doesn’t look like the fast fighter he once was in his workout video. Mayweather looks slow enough for Guerrero to pick him off.
