floyd91By James Sexton: 2013 started off a little sluggishly, but has really picked up recently. We were treated to several real intense match-ups such as Rios-Alvardo 2, Bradley-Provodnikov, and Donaire-Rigondeaux. However I feel some of the upcoming fights this year are going to be real gems to watch and our view of some of the current ‘prospects’ is going to have changed once it is all said and done.

We have Tyson Fury’s latest outing against Steve Cunningham. A win here could propel Fury that one step closer to a fight for a world title. Although I have been highly critical of Furys chosen opposition, I am pleased to say I feel he is moving in the right direction and if it isnt in this fight, it will be one of his next few which will really show where he belongs to be rated in the heavyweight division.

On the same day, the highly anticipated match-up between Trout and Alvarez will take place, and this fight is going to create a pound for pound candidate for sure. Both men are being built up as future stars and the loser will surely bounce back to regain a title in the future.

The Zab Judah fight, against the heavy hitting Danny Garcia is also in April and also features Peter Quillin as a co-feature on the card. This is likely to be one of Judah’s last appearances on the world stage, but as a five time world title winner, should not be counted out, although it is likely we will see another big name added to Garcias resume along with Khan and Morales, where Judah and Garcia go after this fight should also be interesting to see.

Then May 4th, a date all boxing fans instantly know, Mayweather’s fight against Robert Guerrero. Should be a great fight. It is on paper, but as we all know Mayweather is always unpredictable.

We also have Shane Mosley, Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Lamont Peterson, Chad Dawson, Marcos Maidana and Golovkin with scheduled matches in the coming months. As a boxing fans, it is great to have so much talent lined up. The only thing we seem to be waiting for is some big fights in the once great heavyweight division.
