Wilder says he’ll be more technical against Gavern

Deontay Wilder and Jason Gavern(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Rather than going out and bludgeoning his opponent 37-year-old Jason Gavern with some tremendous right hands in the 1st round for a quick knockout, #1 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) says he plans on showing more of his technique by being technical in the fight before he eventually obliterates Gavern early in the fight on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Deontay wants to work on some things to get himself ready for his title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne later this year. Deontay has the right guy for him to work on his technical skills in Gavern, because he’s not much a threat to him and he can experiment with this like uppercuts and left hooks.

Previewing Bermane Stiverne vs. Deontay Wilder WBC heavyweight title fight

Deontay Wilder(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Francis: Having watched the available tapes of both Deontay Wilder and Bermane Stiverne, I have come to a conclusion that if they face each other, I favor Stiverne to win most likely by knockout. The reasons for my prediction are:

1. Stiverne seems to have more technical skill and boxing IQ than Wilder.

2. Stiverne has better defence.

3. Stiverne has faced far better opposition than Wilder, thus has more elite experience.

Wilder: I’ll definitely be fighting Tyson Fury next year

wilder56By Scott Gilfoid: American heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) foresees himself meeting up with British heavyweight Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KOs) next year in a fight that Wilder believes will be a huge fight that would make promoters unnecessary.

Presumably, Wilder believes that Fury will win his next fight against Dereck Chisora on November 22nd, and then beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko after that. The Fury-Chisora fight is a WBO heavyweight eliminator bout with the winner becoming Wladimir’s WBO mandatory challenger.

Deontay Wilder: I can’t wait to hit somebody in the face on Saturday

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) is literally chomping at the bit to get in the ring to try and inflict some punishment on his opponent Jason Gavern (25-16-4, 11 KOs) on Saturday night.

Deontay has been out of the ring for the past 5 months since he destroyed Malik Scott in the 1st round in March, and he wants to get in there and start bouncing right hands off of Gavern’s chin.

Can Deontay Wilder take a punch?

deontay5465By Gerardo Granados: I wonder if Deontay Wilder is able to take a punch from a solid heavyweight contender and I had a really hard time trying to find the answer. Wilder´s amateur experience is good and fail short to shine as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Ray Mercer, Wladimir Klitschko or Lennox Lewis did.

Not the less at the amateurs he must have corrected his flaws and polished his boxing skills but prize fighting is a lot more demanding.

Wilder can hit hard that’s for sure, also has great athletic built for a heavyweight fighter, he has the size, height and reach; but it’s really difficult to say if he is something special before he faces someone who can take and give a punch, someone durable as Ray Mercer was or someone who has the mobility, hand speed and good footwork to test him.

Deontay Wilder ready for Jason Gavern

deontay755By Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday night boxing fans could get a brief glimpse of #1 WBC heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) as he looks to shine against Jason Gavern (25-16-4, 11 KOs) on Showtime.

There’s been no official word about whether the Wilder-Gavern will be televised as part of the Showtime triple-header, so I’m assuming that fans will only get a brief review of the fight in between one the three fights on the televised portion of the card. The fights that are scheduled to be televised by Showtime are the following bouts: Kell Brook vs. Shawn Porter, Anthony Dirrell vs. Sakio Bika 2 and Omar Figueroa vs. Daniel Estrada.

Deontay Wilder faces Jason Gavern in stay-busy fight this Saturday

wilderBy Scott Gilfoid: 6’7” heavyweight Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) will be looking to pick up his 32nd consecutive knockout this Saturday night against Jason Gavern (25-16-4, 11 KOs) in their 10 round bout on the undercard of the Shawn Porter v. Kell Brook at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Wilder has some time to kill before he gets his title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne, so he and his team decided to get in a stay busy fight to keep him on his toes for the Stiverne fight later this year.

Deontay Wilder vs. Jason Gavern on August 16th

deontay5698By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) will be facing the always tough Jason Gavern (25-16-4, 11 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout next week on the undercard of the Shawn Porter vs. Kell Brook fight on August 16th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

Deontay was just added to the card last season, so you can understand why he’s not facing a top 5 guy for this fight.

This fight isn’t official yet. It’s still possible that Deontay could wind up facing someone else.

Deontay Wilder fighting Sheppard is sending a lamb to the slaughter

deontay1By Gav Duthie: In what would be an entirely non unpredictable outcome Deontay Wilder looks yet again to be fighting a tomato can journeyman in Mike Sheppard 21-17-1 (9). 39 year old Sheppard boasts a proud record of being knocked out on a regular basis over 3 decades having made his boxing debut in 1997.

Of his 17 defeats 5 of them have been in the first round and even against the likes of journeyman Joey Abell and Jeremy Bates.

Deontay Wilder takes risky fight on August 16th

deontay72By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) will be taking a huge risky fight on August 16th when he fights in a 10 round bout at the StubHub Center, in Carson, California, USA.

It’s a risky fight because if Deontay loses, he can forget about getting a world title shot in November or December against WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne. Deontay is the mandatory challenge for Stiverne, but he’s been waiting, and waiting for the fight for ages and he doesn’t want to stay out of the ring any longer.
