By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KOs) is literally chomping at the bit to get in the ring to try and inflict some punishment on his opponent Jason Gavern (25-16-4, 11 KOs) on Saturday night.

Deontay has been out of the ring for the past 5 months since he destroyed Malik Scott in the 1st round in March, and he wants to get in there and start bouncing right hands off of Gavern’s chin.

Deontay and Gavern will be facing each other on a Showtime televised card from the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Deontay said “I can’t wait to Saturday. I get a chance to hit somebody in the face.”

As you can see, Deontay is being polite by not mentioning Gavern’s name when making that statement.

This fight is going to be an appealing one for the boxing fans at ringside because Gavern is going to bring and test Deontay. Gavern knows that he doesn’t have the wheels to run for 10 rounds, and he’s not even going to try. He’s going to try and be crafty to out-fox Deontay and somehow maybe get lucky by winning a decision.

Of course, the chances are incredibly slim that Gavern will be able to make it out of the 1st round given Deontay’s how power, but he might somehow make it past the 1st against him. Not too many boxers have made it beyond the 1st against Deontay. He’s knocked out over have the opponents he’s faced in the 1st, and that’s a testament to his incredible power.

Gavern isn’t the guy that Deontay wishes he was facing on Saturday. He’s just someone that is keeping Deontay sharp until he gets his title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne this year in November. That’s the fight that Deontay wants, and the one that he’s going to need to wait another three more months for.

Stiverne has an injury that he’s taking care of right now and he’s going to need to make sure that it’s healed by November so that fight can take place. If not, then the fight could be pushed back until December or later.

Hopefully the injury doesn’t drag out too long. Deontay believes that Stiverne delaying the fight with him on purpose so that he can have more time as being the WBC champion. He sees it as a prestige thing for Stiverne.
