Judah vs. Garcia: Zab has to raise his game to a higher level to win

Angel Garcia argues with Zab Judah(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: #15 WBC Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) has been given a golden opportunity by Golden Boy Promotions to fight their champion WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Judah hasn’t done much to deserve this tile shot and seems to have gotten the fight based on his resume of past fights from many yesterday’s ago. Judah is no longer fighting at the level that would warrant him getting a title shot and he’s pretty heading for a knockout loss in this fight unless he can take his game back to where he was 12 years ago when he was #2 light welterweight in boxing behind Kostya Tszyu.

Judah vs. Garcia: Boxing fans are going to wonder why Golden Boy made this mismatch by the end of it

1214By Dan Ambrose: It’s interesting to see all the casual boxing fans chiming in on their thoughts about the February 9th fight between WBC/WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) and 35-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The casual boxing fans are giving Judah a great chance of beating the 24-year-old Garcia.

They actually believe that Judah is going to school Garcia, and they’re reasoning for this is Judah’s controversial 12 round split decision win over Lucas Matthysse two years ago when Judah was fighting at home on the East coast. These fans don’t realize that Judah isn’t young anymore and he’s not even the same fighter that won a gift decision over Matthysse.

Khan reflects on loss to Garcia: I was surprised the referee stopped it

khan468By Scott Gilfoid: It’s so sad when fighters don’t realize when they’ve been knocked out and foolishly blame the referee when they get spanked. Amir Khan still doesn’t seem to realize how bad off he was when he got destroyed by WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia last July in a 4th round TKO. Khan was knocked down once in the 3rd round and twice more in the 4th before the referee mercifully saved Khan from taking even more punishment by stopping the fight.

Khan said to thesun.co.uk “I was a little surprised the referee stopped it. I thought he was going to let us continue. My mind was clear and I thought my legs were ok but I respect the referee, the judges and the commission, maybe they made the right call.”

Garcia: Khan was a lot faster than I thought he would be

khan5634By William Mackay: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) was a little bit in shock in facing Amir Khan last July in his 4th round TKO victory over him in Las Vegas, Nevada. Garcia said he wasn’t expecting the kind of hand speed that Khan possessed in that fight and that’s why he was getting hit so often by Khan in the first couple of rounds. It wasn’t until Garcia adjusted to Khan’s speed that he was finally able to start landing his own shots.

Speaking with esnewsreporting.co, Garcia said “At first I wasn’t even seeing his punches. I was like snap. He was a lot faster than I expected. He wasn’t hurting me but it was fast. I started to see his punches in the 2nd and in the beginning of the 3rd. That’s when I started to land a couple of body shots and walking him down.”

Garcia-Judah: Is this Zab’s last chance?

judah34345By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions has given 35-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) an arguably undeserved chance to fight WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Judah was knocked out last year by Amir Khan, and now he’s getting a title shot after winning one fight against Vernon Paris. If Judah gets knocked out in this fight, and it does appear that he will, you would have to conclude that Judah may have gotten his last chance at a title unless he follows the Evander Holyfield course of fighting 2nd and 3rd tier opposition and still getting title shots over and over.

Garcia-Judah: Danny with too much youth and power for Zab

Garcia and Judah argue(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: I’ve always liked Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) due to his ability to entertain and fight with a lot of heart even when he’s out of his class. With that said, I think Judah is going to be really out of his league on February 9th in his fight against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 16 KO’s ) on HBO at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and I can’t see it going very well at all for Judah.

Garcia sees this fight as a mere formality. He knows he’s going to win and he sees Judah only making it to the 4th round before he knocks him out. Garcia knows that he’s got an old Judah that will be in the ring with him in this fight, and he’s not going to give him too much respect by letting him hang around like he did with Erik Morales in their first fight in March of this year.

Khan: I’ll move up to 147 after I beat Danny Garcia

khan45By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) says he’ll be moving up to welterweight immediately after he avenges his loss to WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in last 2013. Khan wants to capture Garcia’s two titles, prove that his loss to him was a fluke thing, and then look for more titles at welterweight.

Khan said on Sky Ringside “Maybe by the end of the year [2013] that fight [Danny Garcia] can happen. I’m not going to leave the light welterweight until I fight Garcia again and get my title back, [and] then I think it’ll be the right time to move up. At the moment, I make the 140 pound division quite easily. So Virgil [Hunter] is still advising me to stay at this weight.“
