Danny Garcia in action on March 15th

garcia564By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (27-0, 16 KO’s) is ready to get back in the ring on March 15th against an opponent that Golden Boy Promotions is still looking to find for him. Garcia, 25, had the chance to be in the running for Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight on May 3rd, but he and his team opted not to make that move. It’s a wise decision because there was nothing in Garcia’s performance in his last fight with Lucas Matthysse that would give you any indication that Danny do anything more than lose and lost badly against Mayweather.

Golden Boy will need to really do a lot of searching if they want to find a decent opponent for Danny, because there’s not a lot of good options for him. If he fights anyone in the top 5 by the WBC, Danny will be stuck facing Viktor Postal, Selcuk Aydin, Robert Ortiz, Humberto Soto, or Alberto Mosquera.

Roach thinks Pacquiao could get cross over opponent from Golden Boy

pac6734 (2)By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks that one of Golden Boy Promotions fighters could cross over to Top Rank to take a fight against Manny Pacquiao if they’re unable to set up a fight between Pacquiao and Tim Bradley or Ruslan Provodnikov for April 12th.

The guy that Roach thinks could take the fight is WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia. He’s currently under contract with Golden Boy, and so it’s difficult to understand how he could fight Pacquiao without him getting out of his contract.

Maidana, Garcia, Malignaggi possibilities for Mayweather’s September fight if he fights Khan next

garcia65By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still being hush-mouthed about who his May 3rd opponent will be, but it’s widely assumed that he’ll be fighting Amir Khan due to his slightly better name recognition compared to Marcos Maidana and Danny Garcia.

If Mayweather does select Khan for his next fight, then Maidana, Garcia, Paulie Malignggi and Keith Thurman will be the main possibilities for his September bout, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

Khan is not the best fight for Mayweather in terms of him being a competitive match-up. You can make a good argument that he’s an easier option than fights against Maidana, Garcia, Thurman or Malignaggi.

Danny Garcia needs to make himself a more interesting option for Mayweather

garcia564 - CopyBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (27-0, 16 KO’s) had a big opportunity to position himself for a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September in fighting on the undercard of the Mayweather vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, against Lucas Matthysse. But Garcia blew his chance to shine on the card by choosing to clinch and run all night long in winning a stinker of a fight in the co-feature.

It was a serious buzz kill to have the Garcia-Matthysse fight come on right before the main event between Mayweather and Canelo, because Garcia’s defensive fighting made it really boring to watch. Garcia put on a low blow and clinching clinic in that fight, and the referee only took one point from him.

Danny Garcia or Ruslan, Undisputed at 140lbs.

garcia675By Isaac Brodie: With the list of titleholders in this sport currently reading like a novel the achievement of the deserving champions are totally belittled. In some divisions there are half a dozen fighters stating a claim to divisional supremacy under the facade of interim, regular or whatever other pseudonym can be concocted to arm a paper champion with some letters so they might be sold to the mass audience.

The promotional heavyweights have done a good of smuggling respective titles into their ranks to be juggled amongst their stable. But this does not make real champions. This is not to undermine the achievements of the many deserving champions of the sport, I’m sure that most of them would like nothing more than to add further legitimacy to their titles. However, these champion are still just undermining one another because the only absolute champion as of right now is Wladimir Klitschko, if your ignore his older brother (which at this point seems fair as he is likely to retire without defending his belt again).

Is Danny Garcia’s fighting style too dull for Mayweather bout?

garcia65 - CopyBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia is one of the names that have been mentioned as a possible opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr’s net fight in May of next year. However, after Garcia’s recent less than exciting performance against Lucas Matthysse last September it could be that Danny failed to fight at a high enough level to get the Mayweather payday.

In other words, Danny won the battle in clinching and moving his way to a dull victory over Matthysse but he may have lost the ultimate war in trying to land the fight with Mayweather.

For an important fight date like the Cinco de Mayo holiday on May 3rd, Mayweather needs an opponent that will come to him to make it a fight. He can’t be battling someone that will be holding and running for 12 rounds.

Danny Garcia hoping he gets Mayweather bout in May

garcia65By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (27-0, 16 KO’s) is hoping that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KO’s) selects him to fight in his next bout on Cinco de Mayo in May.

Garcia feels he earned the right to face Mayweather Jr. after his recent win over WBC interim 140 lb. champion Lucas Matthysse in addition to his stoppage win over Amir Khan last year in July.

Garcia barely beat Matthysse by the scores of 114-112, 114-112 and 115-111. Garcia lucked out when he was allowed to shove Matthysse into the ropes in the 11th round and drop him when he caught tangled in the ropes.

Garcia vs. Matthysse: Separating the Myths from Reality

matthysse564By Robbie Bannatyne: They say the facts don’t lie. But they can be deceiving, and at times, downright surprising. As was the case in the Light-Welterweight title bout between Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia and Lucas ‘Machine’ Matthysse, the penultimate fight on the Mayweather vs Alvarez undercard.

Despite being the challenger, Matthysse was a massive favorite to win the fight, but Garcia put on vintage display- mixing pure boxing with brawling- to rip up the script and retain his WBA and WBC titles making sure his unbeaten record remains intact.

As surprising as the outcome was, the compu-box fight statistics are even more astonishing and seem to separate some myths from the reality of what both men bring to the table.

Top 5 Under 25: The Future Faces of Boxing

canelo677By Chester Rivers: It’s time to face reality. Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez are on their way out, and boxing desperately need some young fresh fighters to pick up were these legends will soon leave off. The following list is my top 5 candidates who, if promoted properly, could be the next face of boxing.

1). Miguel “Mikey” Garcia, age 25, (32-0, 27 KO’s) Mikey has the potential to someday top the pound-for-pound list. Garcia’s resume list former champions Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez as his victims. Mikey did have trouble making weight in his last fight which resulted in the young champion losing his title on the scales. Lucky for us Garcia has outgrown the featherweight division and will now be competing in the deeper junior lightweight division against alphabet champ Rocky Martinez. Garcia should dispose of Martinez quite easily gaining his second world title in his second division.

Is Angel Garcia a clever mastermind?

By Rav: It has become clear that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (27-0, 16 KO’s) is actually an underrated and underestimated fighter who keeps delivering as his father and trainer has said, and keeps saying but he keeps on delivering time and time again.
