Pascal suffers torn left bicep & rotator cuff; fight with Chad Dawson still on for March 23rd

By Allan Fox: Former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (27-2-1, 16 KO’s) must be pretty happy right now after learning that he didn’t suffer a bad shoulder injury in his 10 round unanimous decision win over Aleksy Kuziemski last Friday night in Montreal, Canada. Fightnews.com is reporting that Pascal suffered a torn left bicep and a partially torn left rotator cuff.

Dawson vs. Pascal II: Jean a tough match-up for Chad

Image: Dawson vs. Pascal II: Jean a tough match-up for ChadBy Allan Fox: It’s been two years since Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) suffered an 11th round technical decision loss to Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KO’s) in a fight that was halted after Dawson suffered a bad cut over his left eye from a clash of heads in the 11th.

The fight was stopped and it went to the cards and Dawson lost. The defeat has really bugged Dawson ever since then, and he’s decided to try and avenge it against Pascal by fighting him on March 23rd in Canada in a still to be determined venue.

Bellew’s dream of fighting Dawson will be delayed

Image: Bellew's dream of fighting Dawson will be delayedBy Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew (19-1, 12 KO’s0 easily beat #5 WBC Roberto Bolonti (30-2, 19 KO’s) by a two knockdown 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night in Nottingham to win the WBC Silver light heavyweight title, but the win came at a heavy price for the the soon to be 30-year-old Bellew, as he suffered a bad cut on his right eyebrow in the 3rd round.

The cut is going to keep Bellew out of action until at least April. As bad as that cut was I’d be surprised if Bellew can come back before May and if he does rush himself back the cut will likely reopen as soon as it gets hit solidly. It might not matter if Bellew faces another weak opponent without much of a chance to compete with him. But if plans on facing someone good like Eduard Gutknecht, Denis Grachev, or Ismayl Sillakh, Bellew is going to have some problems.

Chad Dawson vs. Jean Pascal II on March 23rd

Image: Chad Dawson vs. Jean Pascal II on March 23rdBy Dan Ambrose: WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) will be facing former WBC champion Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KO’s) in a rematch on March 23rd in a still to be determined venue, according to Boxrec.com. Dawson was beaten by Pascal by a 11th round technical decision in August 2010, but was unable to get a rematch against him despite having had a rematch clause in his contract at the time.

Dawson has won two out of his last four fight but is coming off of a bad 10th round knockout loss to Andre Ward last September in a fight that took place for Ward’s WBA and WBC super middleweight titles in Oakland, California. Dawson looked weak and slow from having drained down from 175 to make 168. In hindsight it wasn’t a good idea for him to take the fight at that weight without at least a catchweight being involved.

Bellew wants Dawson next after Bolonti

Image: Bellew wants Dawson next after BolontiBy Scott Gilfoid: If Tony Bellew (18-1, 12 KO’s) can get past his opponent tonight Roberto Bolonti (30-1, 19 KO’s) in their fight for the vacant WBC Silver light heavyweight title in Nottingham, Bellew wants to go after a fight against WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s). Bellew thinks he knows how to beat Dawson after watching Andre Ward take him apart last September.

Bellew said to Sky Sports Ringside “I still feel Chad Dawson is the best light heavyweight in the world, even with the Andre Ward defeat. But I want to force him into fighting me because I don’t believe that he will choose me. I’ve seen the blueprint in how to beat him. I want to get into the ring with Chad Dawson. I believe I can beat Chad Dawson.”

Bellew hoping to get title shot against Dawson if he beats Bolonti on 11/17

Image: Bellew hoping to get title shot against Dawson if he beats Bolonti on 11/17By Scott Gilfoid: #14 WBO Tony Bellew (18-1, 12 KO’s) hopes to put himself in position to where he can get a title shot against WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) in early 2013 if the 29-year-old Bellew can get past #5 WBC Roberto Feliciano Bolonti (30-1, 19 KO’s) in their fight on November 17th on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Yusaf Mack fight at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom.

Bellew and Bolonti will be fighting for the vacant WBC Silver light heavyweight title. With all the titles that litter boxing I’m not surprised that a trinket was found for this fight to somehow validate it. A strap for a #14 contender in Bellew and a little known fighter in Bolonti to fight for.

Mayweather Sr: Chad Dawson hasn’t looked good since I trained him

Image: Mayweather Sr: Chad Dawson hasn't looked good since I trained himBy Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Sr. wasn’t pleased with the performance of Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) in his 10th round stoppage loss to WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward last month. Mayweather Sr., who has a big impact on shaping he fighting style of Dawson during his time as his trainer, was especially upset with seeing Dawson quit in the 10th round after getting knocked down by Ward. Mayweather Sr. felt that Dawson could and should have kept fighting.

Speaking with Fighthype.com, Mayweather Sr. said “The best he [Dawson] ever looked was with Floyd Mayweather Sr. He ain’t looked that good sense. He ain’t no f***** fighter…He quit when he could still fight…Ain’t got no balls.”

Mayweather thinks Chad Dawson made a mistake by draining down to 168 for Andre Ward fight

Image: Mayweather thinks Chad Dawson made a mistake by draining down to 168 for Andre Ward fightBy Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinks that WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) made a big mistake by agreeing to drain down from 175 pounds to fight WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) at 168 in their fight on September 8th in Oakland, California. Dawson looked weak and weight drained for that fight, and ended up getting stopped in the 10th round in a one-sided fight.

Mayweather said to fighthype.com “If I was Chad Dawson, me myself, I wouldn’t have lost that weight. And he went to Andre’s hometown. It should have been on neutral turf.”

Chad Dawson: The Doomed Decision

Image: Chad Dawson: The Doomed DecisionBy Kevin Pasquale: After Andre Ward cleaned out all comers in Showtime’s “Super 6” Super Middleweight tournament, including the likes of Kessler, Abraham, AND Froch, all in convincing fashion, it was clear that Ward had staked his claim as the king of the 168-pound division, and at the same time, worked his way into the likes of the pound-for-pound pantheon of kingpins, sharing company with the likes of Mayweather, Pacquiao, Martinez, and others.

At around the same time, Chad Dawson had staked his claim as the clear light heavyweight champ, after easily outpointing the crafty Bernard Hopkins in their (2nd) matchup in April 2012, following his other convincing victories over strong light-heavies such as Tarver, Johnson, And Adamek.

Ward/Dawson fight, and the aftermath

Image: Ward/Dawson fight, and the aftermathby Jordan Capobianco: When Mike Tyson fought Trevor Berbick, it was within 10 days of the 5-year anniversary of Berbick beating an old, slow, far-past-his-prime Muhammad Ali. Berbick was destroyed in the bout, losing in the typical fashion of Tyson opponents at the time — by technical knockout in the second round. And vengeance for Muhammad Ali was satisfied.

When Corrie Sanders did the same to Wladimir Klitschko — technical knockout in the second round — he suffered a similar fate. Sanders’ next fight was against Vitali Klitschko, who wiped the floor with Sanders, turned the face of the man who had beaten up his brother into hamburger, and calmly fed it to the dogs. And vengeance for Wladimir Klitschko was satisfied.
