Ward: Dawson has a lot to prove against Adonis Stevenson

dawson33By Eric Thomas: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward feels that the recently beaten WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) needs to prove that he’s still a world class fighter in his next bout against Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) next month on June 8th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Ward totally dominated Dawson and stopped him in the 10th round last September and the way that Dawson looked in that fight, he appeared to be a shell of what he was years ago.

Ward said to RingTV “I think he [Dawson] has to show that he still has it…that he is who the fans are used to seeing, and that’s the old Chad Dawson…that he can still take a shot, and that he can deal with a strong guy like Stevenson.”

dawson33By Allan Fox: WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) and challenger Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KO’s) traded barbs earlier today in their press conference to hype their June 8th fight at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Stevenson, 35, is moving up in weight from 168 to challenge the taller and the more experienced Dawson for is World Boxing Council 175 lb. title,

Hearn doubts Bellew is ready for Chad Dawson after poor performance against Chilemba

bellew33By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s), questions whether the 30-year-old Bellew is ready to challenge for the title against WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson when and if the opportunity presents itself.

Bellew fought to an unimpressive 12 round draw with #3 WBC Isaac Chilemba (20-1-1, 9 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Echo Arena.

Hearn said to the dailystar.co.uk “On that performance, maybe he [Bellew] is not ready for a Chad Dawson, so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. Maybe he needs to build again, learn more and come back better because I don’t think on that performance he may have been able to deal with Dawson.”

Dawson: I want to fight Andre Ward at 175

dawson67By Dan Ambrose: Former two time WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) is blaming his weight for him losing to WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward in a 10th round TKO defeat last year in September.

Dawson claims the process of draining down from his natural weight class of 175 to 168 left him without his usual energy that he normally has. He says that’s one of the reasons why Ward kept knocking him down in that fight. Dawson hit the deck three times in the fight, once in the 3rd, 4th and 10th round.

Dawson said to Chris Byrd at Byrd’s Eye View “We [Ward] definitely got to do it again at 175. Eventually he’ll come to 175 and I’ll be right there.”
