Would Froch have done any better against Ward than Dawson did last Saturday?

Image: Would Froch have done any better against Ward than Dawson did last Saturday?By Scott Gilfoid: Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) is taking a lot of stick for getting dominated and stopped by the talented WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) last Saturday night, but I think it’s kind of unfair to Dawson. Can you imagine anyone doing better than Dawson did?

For example, I think IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch would have been in the exact same boat at Dawson did last Saturday if it had been him in there with Ward.

Andre Ward knocks out a weight drained Chad Dawson

Image: Andre Ward knocks out a weight drained Chad Dawson(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Marcus Stewart: Without much surprise the bout between WBC and WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward and Lineal Light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson was a complete let down after Andre Ward knocked Chad Dawson out in impressive yet predictable style.

You can tell from the word go that Chad Dawson wasn’t himself. He seemed slow, sluggish and lacked in much energy throughout the fight. Andre Ward successfully exploited that and was able to pot shot Dawson for most of the night with his jab and left hook. Many people felt that Andre Ward proved that he is without a doubt one of the best pound for pound fighters on the planet. I strongly disagree with this claim.

Andre Ward’s options for big fights at 168 are extremely limited

Image: Andre Ward's options for big fights at 168 are extremely limitedBy Allan Fox: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward’s victories over Chad Dawson and Carl Froch in his last two fights may have effectively closed the door on him getting other big important fights of that kind in the future. Fighters tend to not want to take on a guy that is dominating everyone the way that Ward is right now, and I think he’s going to be sadly disappointed at what he’s going to settle for in his next fight.

Let’s look at what’s out there at super middleweight. There’s Carl Froch, Thomas Oosthuizen, Adonis Stevenson, Lucian Bute, Edwin Rodriguez, Sakio Bika, Andre Dirrell, Anthony Dirrell, Don George, Kelly Pavlik, Robert Stieglitz, Arthur Abraham, Brian Magee, James DeGale, Mikkel Kessler, George Groves and Karoly Balzsay.

Chad Dawson moving back up to 175: Will he ever be the same?

Image: Chad Dawson moving back up to 175: Will he ever be the same?By Jason Kim: Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) says he’s moving back up to 175 lbs to continue his reign as the WBC light heavyweight champion after failing to capture the WBA/WBC titles off of super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

Dawson, 30, took a real beating in that fight and was knocked down three times before he ultimately quit in the 10th after having been badly hurt by Ward.

Ward proves that he’s unstoppable at 168 in easily beating Dawson

Image: Ward proves that he's unstoppable at 168 in easily beating DawsonBy Dan Ambrose: Right now the skies the limit for WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) after he effortlessly defeated Bad Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KO’s) by a 10th round TKO on Saturday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

This fight proved that there’s no one that can touch the 28-year-old Ward right now. If Dawson, the best fighter at light heavyweight, can’t beat Ward then there probably isn’t a fighter at 168 that can touch him, at least for now. Ward has already proven that he’s better than some of the other top super middleweights like Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham, Sakio Bika and Carl Froch.

Dawson went down in the 3rd, 4th and 10th rounds from hard left hooks by Ward.

Chad Dawson risks so much in facing Andre Ward

Image: Chad Dawson risks so much in facing Andre WardBy Mark Havey: Tonight will see Bernard Hopkins conqueror, Chad Dawson (31-1-0-2, KO’s 17) face off against the talented Andre Ward (25-0-0, KO 13)’s . For Dawson, the road is perilous, but the rewards are unparalleled. It has been well known that Dawson has experienced difficulty in filling seats. That could all change tonight.

This fight shows what kind of champion Chad Dawson is. The kind of champion who isn’t contented to just defend his WBC light heavyweight belt. He wants to scale new heights and constantly challenge himself. This frame of mind could make him very popular. Dawson doesn’t really need to take this challenge. He is number one at light heavyweight. He is the WBC champion. yet he is stepping down in weight, meeting Ward on terms that don’t really help him in anyway. It could be a huge mistake agreeing to go down in weight.

Ward has to mug Dawson on the inside to win

Image: Ward has to mug Dawson on the inside to win( Photo credit: Alexis Cuarezma/Goossen Tutor) By Jason Kim: For WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) to defeat WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KO’s) tonight in their fight at 168 lbs at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, Ward is going to have to mug Dawson on the inside all night long to get the decision.

Ward is a good fighter on the outside, but he’s not only the same level as the long-armed Dawson. Saw Ward’s limits in his last fight agaisnt Carl Froch where Ward had problems each time Froch was able to get some space to throw his shots. Froch is much more limited than Dawson, and yet he was still able to have his way with Ward when the action was on the outside.

Dawson looks weight drained for Ward fight

Image: Dawson looks weight drained for Ward fight(Photo credit: Alexis Cuarezma/Goossen Tutor) By Dan Ambrose: Contrary to what Chad Dawson (31-1, 17 KO’s) has been saying lately about him not being hurt by coming down from 175 lbs to face WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, the 30-year-old Dawson clearly looks weight drained in video and in photos of him.

Dawson doesn’t look like his old self, and he appears a lot thinner than Ward, who appears like he’s ready to step inside the ring right now and defend his titles.
