Mundine says he’ll be making a fight offer to Erislandy Lara

mundine544By Allan Fox: 38-year-old Anthony Mundine (46-5, 27 KO’s) is looking to put himself in position to get a big money fight against WBA junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2015, by facing interim WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) in his next fight. Mundine, #4 WBA, said last night that he’ll be making an offer to the Cuban Lara to get him in the ring as soon as possible.

Mundine said: “@Laraboxing Our offer will come soon! So take it. You come to Aussie school for a lesson. Cool out! We will see soon when we in the square circle! I ain’t gonna talk bout it but be about it. I’ll give something you never seen before! An Aboriginal lesson in boxing! Just tell your promoters to get in touch and make a deal.”

Anthony Mundine vs. Gunnar Jackson on Wednesday night in Australia

mundine53By Allan Fox: Former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (45-5, 27 KO’s) has a stay busy fight on Wednesday night against little known Gunnar Jackson (18-4-3, 6 KO’s) at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Boondall, Queensland, Australia. Mundine, 38, wants to get a fight against WBA interim light middleweight champion Erislandy Lara, but a fight like that isn’t easy to come by right now. It’s possible that Mundine can make that fight at some point in 2014.

Jackson, 27, has losses to Adrian Taihia and Dimitri Simoukov in New Zealand. He’s won his last three fights since his defeat to Taihia. However, his opposition has been very poor.

Mundine wants Erislandy Lara fight

lara455By Allan Fox: Former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (45-5, 27 KO’s) is targeting WBA interim junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) for a fight in the near future. Mundine sees Lara as the guy that separates him from the WBA title, and he wants to beat him as soon as possible if he can get the fight against the Cuban.

Lara is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career in beating former WBA 154 lb. champion Austin Trout last December in Brooklyn, New York. Trout didn’t have the power or the fighting style to give Lara any problems in that bout, and it was one of Lara’s easier fights of his career.

Anthony Mundine faces Billy Lyell on Jan. 29th

mundine6712By Allan Fox: Former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (45-5, 27 KO’s) will be facing replacement opponent journeyman Billy Lyell (25-11, 5 KO’) on January 29th at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Boondall, Queensland, Australia, according to Stuff.co.nz. The 38-year-old Mundine was supposed to fight welterweight Carson Jones, but he came down with the flu and had to pull out of the fight.

Mundine took a lot of criticism for wanting to fight Carson, because he was going to have a huge size advantage over him. Besides that, Carson had won only one fight out of his last four. But in selecting the 29-year-old Lyell, Mundine is getting a similarly poor opponent in that Lyell has lost two out of his last three fights. If nothing else, you can say that Mundine is remaining consistent in terms of the opposition he’s facing nowadays.

A Shame for Sugar Shane Mosley

mundine59274By @BoxingMuse: Three weight champion Shane Mosley looked a shell of his former self during his performance in Sydney, Australia against Anthony Mundine. The fight ended before the start of 7th round with the fight doctor and referee in agreement that due to Mosley suffering back spasms the bout should be stopped. Mundine who is a two-weight world titlist (WBA & IBO titles) himself now has a TKO win over the American legend.

Mosley in his prime, which can be estimated over ten years ago, approximately around the victories over De La Hoya was an extremely talented fighter. Shane may well be remembered as one of the best lightweights of all time and a certain hall of famer. It is sad to say we haven’t seen vintage Mosley since his iconic victory over boxing’s bad boy Antonio Margarito.

Mundine wants Canelo, Cotto or Mayweather next

mundine6712By Allan Fox: Former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (45-5, 27 KO’s) has set his sights on a fight against one of the top fighters in boxing in Floyd Mayweather Jr., Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or Miguel Cotto, following Mundine’s 6th round stoppage win over 42-year-old Shane Mosley last Wednesday night at the Allphones Arena, Olympic Park, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

While it may have seen as if the 38-year-old Mundine was merely cherry-picking an older fighter to try and get himself in the thick of things at 147 and 154, Mosley was actually highly ranked by the WBC at #5 and WBA at #6 in the 147 lb. division. Mundine’s win, whether people like it or not, puts him among the big names in the sport.

Mundine defeats Mosley after back injury for Shane

mundine53By Jim Dower: In a disappointing finish, 42-year-old Shane Mosley (47-9-1, 39 KO’s) was unable to continue fighting after the 6th round due to back spasms in his fight against 38-year-old Anthony Mundine (45-5, 27 KO’s) to win the vacant WBA International light middleweight title at the Allphones Arena, Olympic Park, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

The crowd booed when the fight was halted, and it’s hard to blame them.

Mundine says he wants a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., but you have to wonder if that’s the case then why was he fighting 42-year-old Mosley instead of a top welterweight like Keith Thurman? Mundine seems to be going about trying to get a fight against Mayweather all backwards.

Anthony Mundine vs. Shane Mosley possible for October

mosley4434By Dan Ambrose: 41-year-old Shane Mosley (47-8-1, 39 KO’s) has reportedly been given an offer of close to $1.5 million to travel to Australia to fight 38-year-old former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (44-5, 26 KO’s) in October, according to news.com.au.

If Mundine loses the fight, he says he’s going to retire from boxing. It’s not likely that Mundine will lose the fight, because he’s going to have a huge height and weight advantage over the soon to be 42-year-old Mosley.

Mundine is fighting at middleweight now, but he’s still pretty much a super middleweight in size at 5’11”. He’s come down in weight with the hopes that he can work his way into a big fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., but that appears to be little more than a pipe dream at best.

Mundine V Mosley in possible Australian Mega Fight

mundine653658By Michael Dickie Twitter @MichaelDickie – Sugar Shane Mosley, after coming out of retirement and winning a close decision over Pablo Cesar Cano, now finds himself with some very appealing options in front of him.

One of which is the potential to travel to Australia and fight three time World Champion Anthony “The Man” Mundine in a junior middleweight showdown that the Australian public are already calling a Mega Fight.

Mosley, 41, would earn himself a significant pay day against Mundine, while also being involved in a fight which could potentially go down as one of Australia’s biggest nights ever seen in its proud boxing history. All of this for Mosley, in just his second fight of his comeback.
