Mundine wants Mayweather fight in September

mundine4By Dan Ambrose: In an open letter former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (47-6, 27 KOs) posted on his twitter account today, Mundine called out WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) for September, saying he’s “the only one that can solve the Mayvinchi Code” if given the chance.

Mundine, 40, is ranked #4 WBA, #4 WBC, so he’s not even ranked high enough to be a mandatory challenger for Mayweather at junior middleweight, if Mayweather even cared about stuff like that. What Mayweather does care about is whether his opponents have a fan base in the United States, and unfortunately for Mundine, I don’t think he has much of any fan base in America.

Mundine confident he’ll beat Rabchenko again

mundine6712By Allan Fox: 39-year-old former WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (47-6, 27 KOs) feels very confident that he’ll be able to defeat #5 WBC Sergey Rabchenko (25-1, 18 KOs) if they wind up facing each other in a rematch in 2015.

The two fighters faced each other last November with Mundine winning a controversial 12 round split decision. Mundine was fighting at home at the Hisense Arena, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. That put added pressure on the Belarussian Rabchenko to do a little extra in each round in order to get the decision.

Clottey batters Mundine, ruins his Mayweather dream fight

mundine25By Dan Ambrose: If 38-year-old Anthony “The Man” Mundine (46-6, 27 KO’s) is going to get his dream fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. then he’s going to need some kind of miracle at this point in his career, as Mundine took a pounding tonight by former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (38-4, 22 KO’s) in losing a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision at the Entertainment Centre, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

The worst part of it was that Clottey beat Mundine in front of his own Australian fans, and he beat him pretty badly. Clottey knocked Mundine down 5 times in the fight in putting him down in the 3rd, two times in the 6th, another time in the 8th and a final time in the 10th. The judge’s scores were 116-108, 115-109, 117-108.

Mundine: The fight against Clottey is one of the toughest of my career

mundine544By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (46-5, 27 KO’s) will be in the ring next week on Wednesday, April 9th against former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (37-4, 22 KO’s) at the Entertainment Centre, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Mundine must win this fight in order to keep in position to get an eventual title shot against WBA 154lb champion Erislandy Lara. This should be a fairly safe fight for the 38-year-old Mundine, as long as he doesn’t get caught by one of Clottey’s triple hooks.

Clottey: I’m retiring Mundine on April 9th

clottey3423By Allan Fox: Former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey (37-4, 22 KO’s) plans on beating the bigger #3 WBA Anthony Mundine (46-5, 27 KO’s) in front of his own fans on April 9th and sending him into retirement when they meet up at the Entertainment Centre, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

Clottey, now 36, realizes that Mundine has selected him in order to get a victory over a well-known fighter to get in position to get a title shot against the WBA 154lb champion Erislandy Lara. Clottey feels that Mundine, 38, is looking past him, and he plans on making him pay for it by beating him and wrecking his dreams of a title shot or a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Anthony Mundine vs. Joshua Clottey on April 2nd

By Allan Fox: 38-year-old former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (46-5, 27 KO’s) is saying that he plans on fighting the 36-year-old Joshua Clottey (37-4, 22 KO’s) on April 2nd at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Broadmeadow, New South Wales, Australia. This fight makes about as much sense as Mundine’s recent fight against the 42-year-old Shane Mosley. Clottey has fought only two times in the last four fights in beating journeyman Dashon Johnson by a 10 round unanimous decision last year in September. Before that, Clottey stopped Calvin Green in the 2nd round in November of 2011.
