Fury trashes Deontay and Anthony Joshua

joshua99By Scott Gilfoid: IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury really worked over WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and the unbeaten heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua this weekend. In an interview, Fury said that he’s hoping Joshua wins his fight against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin on April 9, because he’d like to face Joshua in a mega-fight in the UK.

However, he does not see Joshua winning the fight. Fury thinks Joshua is little more than a bodybuilder/weight lifter, and he doesn’t think those guys can fight. Fury notes that Joshua was gassed out by the 5th round in his fight against Dillian Whyte last December. Fury thinks Deontay will beat Joshua when/if the two fighters face each other. However, he thinks Wilder is just a skinny guy.

As for when Fury will face Wladimir in a rematch, he is not sure. Fury is not even sure if he’ll fight Wladimir next or not.

IBF orders Joseph Parker vs. Carlos Takam title eliminator

parkerBy Jeff Aranow:
The International Boxing Federation order a heavyweight eliminator bout on Wednesday between #5 IBF Carlos Takam (33-2-1, 25 KOs) and #6 IBF Joseph Parker (18-0, 16 KOs). The winner of the Parker-Takam fight will be the new IBF mandatory challenger and will be facing the winner of the April 9 fight between IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) and #4 IBF Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The #1 and #2 spots are currently unrated by the IBF, and No.3 contender is Erkan Teper, who is currently suspended.

Parker and Takam won’t avoid the IBF eliminator. Both are reportedly interested in taking that fight, according to ESPN. They’ll need to work quickly to negotiate the fight because they’ve got slightly less than a month to get the fight agreed and signed.

Haye still bellyaching about wanting Joshua fight

Image: Haye still bellyaching about wanting Joshua fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Despite it being painfully obvious that Eddie Hearn, the promoter for unbeaten heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs), having zero interest in letting former two division world champion David Haye (27-2, 25 KOs), get a shot at Joshua, Haye is still bellyaching about wanting that fight.

Instead of just acknowledging that there’s little interest from Joshua and Hearn in meeting up in an all British clash, Haye has been jabbering about the fight almost nonstop. It’s just sad. It makes Haye across as too needy and that’s a real turnoff. Haye needs to get a hint and move on. He’s about to turn 36. He needs to find his own path rather than yapping about wanting the Joshua fight.

Has Anthony Joshua’s time come too soon?

joshua1234By Chris W: I have followed Anthony Joshua’s career for quite some time, seeing him improve a little each fight. Although he hasn’t fought anyone really of note, I think he is at the stage where he should be looking for a world title fight. Though I do think Joshua needed a few fights more before he steps it up but April 9th we get to see if he is ready against Charles Martin.

I read daily on here and other sites about how Joshua “bum rushes” opponents. How he is too muscular. Got wobbled in the 2nd against Dillian Whyte so he has no chance. Personally I think although limited Joshua does what he does very well.

Chisora: Joshua will beat Martin by KO

chisora454By Scott Gilfoid: 12 WBO, 13 WBC, 13 IBF fringe contender Dereck Chisora (25-5, 17 KOs) believes that fellow Brit Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) will defeat IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) by a knockout in their fight on April 9 on Sky Box Office at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Chisora, 32, thinks that Martin will attempt to box Joshua in the first quarter of the fight in order to take him into the deeper waters, where he hopes to drown him. Chisora doesn’t think that’s going to work for Martin, as he sees the 6’6” Joshua knocking him out anytime he pleases.

Chisora also thinks that Joshua will want to fight him. I’m not sure why though, because Chisora appears to be heading towards journeyman status, especially after he loses to former world title challenger Kubrat Pulev in their fight for the vacant EBU heavyweight title.

Joshua says he’ll fight Dillian Whyte again if he wants rematch

joshua68By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) says he is game for a rematch with his former conqueror Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) if he wants another fight. The two fighters are currently 1-1 in their rivalry after Joshua recently beat the injured Whyte by a seventh round knockout last December to avenge an earlier loss to him in the amateur ranks in 2009.

The difference is Whyte was injured during the rematch last December, and he could not fight hard for more than one round. Whyte came into the fight with a bang up left shoulder, which got worse after he tweaked it in the 2nd while knocking Joshua silly.

“It’s rock and roll. If he wants another fight, we’ll do it again, no problem. It’s rock and roll. Me and Dillian, round two,” Joshua said to skysports.com.

Joshua denies he is afraid of Charles Martin

joshua2By Scott Gilfoid: After IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) said that he spotted fear in the eyes of his opponent #2 WBC, #2 WBO Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) during their recent face off at their first press conference, Joshua was quick to deny that he’s afraid of the 6’5” American talent.

Joshua says he has zero fear of the hard-hitting Martin. Of course, when you hear someone denying that they are afraid, it can be said that they really are. I am just saying. If Joshua is afraid of Martin, then that is okay.

It does not matter. It’s not like it’s the end of the world if Joshua is afraid of Martin. It just means that he has a healthy amount of respect for the talent of Martin, and he’s starting to realize what could happen if he lands his big shots.

Matthew Macklin vs. Brian Rose on April 9 on Martin-Joshua card

macklin56By Scott Gilfoid: #8 IBF, #11 WBC junior middleweight contender Matthew Macklin (34-6, 22 KOs) will be facing former world title challenger Brian Rose (28-3-1, 8 KOs) in a scheduled 12 round bout on April 9 on the undercard of the heavyweight clash between IBF champion Charles Martin and Anthony Joshua at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The card will be televised on Sky Box Office. The Macklin-Rose fight will take place in the 154lb division. Macklin recently moved down to that weight class in his last fight against Jason Welborn last October.

I can’t say that Macklin looks any better at 154 than he did at 160, but at least he didn’t get knocked out, so that’s a positive.

Charles Martin: I’m not afraid of muscles [Joshua]

Image: Charles Martin: I’m not afraid of muscles [Joshua]By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) says he wanted to fight unbeaten Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) a long time. Martin saw something in the 6’6” Joshua that made him want to get him inside the ring. That’s why Martin threw the 26-year-pld Joshua a bone by choosing to fight him next without him earning the shot first by becoming the IBF mandatory challenger.

As of now, Joshua is ranked at No.4 by the IBF and Martin didn’t need to fight him if he didn’t want to. Martin says he’s not afraid of big muscles, which is clearly a shot at Joshua. If you look at Joshua’s physique, he looks like a bodybuilder, and he also looks like someone who could punch holes through walls.

Peter Fury picks Charles Martin to defeat Anthony Joshua

martin123By Scott Gilfoid: Peter Fury, the trainer for IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is favoring IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) to defeat #2 WBC, #2 WBO, #4 IBF Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) in their fight on April 9 on Sky Box Office from the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Peter notes that the 6’5” Martin is someone who will hit you back if you nail him with something, and that could be a problem for Joshua. He has been dishing it out and not getting much in return from the fodder that his promoter Eddie Hearn has been digging up for him since he signed on with his Matchroom Sport promotions in 2013.
