Has Anthony Joshua’s time come too soon?

joshua1234By Chris W: I have followed Anthony Joshua’s career for quite some time, seeing him improve a little each fight. Although he hasn’t fought anyone really of note, I think he is at the stage where he should be looking for a world title fight. Though I do think Joshua needed a few fights more before he steps it up but April 9th we get to see if he is ready against Charles Martin.

I read daily on here and other sites about how Joshua “bum rushes” opponents. How he is too muscular. Got wobbled in the 2nd against Dillian Whyte so he has no chance. Personally I think although limited Joshua does what he does very well.

In the Whyte fight Joshua let his inexperience show and got too overconfident knowing he could hurt Whyte and shipped a left hook which shook him up. This was down to Joshua going too crazy thinking he had Whyte, with no guard and no position to take the shot. When the shot landed he was square on to Whyte with no defence.

If Joshua does this on 9th April against Charles Martin I think he could be in for more than a left hook.

Although I haven’t followed Martin that much I have seen a few of his fights and again Martin hasn’t really fought anyone of note but he did a good job against Vyacheslav Glazkov until his knee failed. He (Martin) does look sharp and hits hard so this could be a very good fight.
They both say this fight isn’t going 12 rounds and I can’t see it going there either. Being from the UK I’d like Joshua to win, but I think if he fights like he did against Whyte he will make it a very hard fight.

It is definitely a 50/50 fight for me though my heart is saying Joshua win.
Praise to both fighters for making it happen though Martin as the champion coming over to the UK to make his first defence of his title against one of our biggest prospects, and to Joshua for taking a big fight with huge pressure to perform and take the title.

I’m going to put my prediction here which I’ll get slated for I’m sure. Anthony Joshua to win in round 6 by KO. This is in my opinion how the fight will go IF Joshua has worked on his flaws from the last fight and doesn’t get too overconfident and keeps hold of his head, if he can deal with the weight of expectation from us over here I think the UK will have another World Heavyweight Champion come April 9th.

Thanks for reading my first article for Boxing News 24.  Let the Slating commence :D
