Haye still bellyaching about wanting Joshua fight

Image: Haye still bellyaching about wanting Joshua fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Despite it being painfully obvious that Eddie Hearn, the promoter for unbeaten heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs), having zero interest in letting former two division world champion David Haye (27-2, 25 KOs), get a shot at Joshua, Haye is still bellyaching about wanting that fight.

Instead of just acknowledging that there’s little interest from Joshua and Hearn in meeting up in an all British clash, Haye has been jabbering about the fight almost nonstop. It’s just sad. It makes Haye across as too needy and that’s a real turnoff. Haye needs to get a hint and move on. He’s about to turn 36. He needs to find his own path rather than yapping about wanting the Joshua fight.

Haye thinks that the British fans will start demanding a fight between him and Joshua. I doubt it. I mean, if Haye would start fighting fighters with a pulse, then maybe some fans would want to see him fight Joshua. But with Haye fighting guys like Mark De Mori, who looked gawd awful last January, there’s not going to be any demand for a fight between him and Joshua. Haye needs to move up a couple levels in terms of talent by facing someone like Carlos Takam, Joseph Parker or Luis Ortiz.

Joshua will be fighting for a world title on April 9 against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs). If Joshua loses that fight as I expect him to, then there won’t be any point in Haye talking up the fight with Joshua. That’s one good thing at least that will come of that. You won’t be able to seel a Joshua-Haye fight in the UK once Joshua loses to the 6’5” Martin.

“Anthony Joshua has got a massive fight next time out, for the IBF championship of the world,” Haye said to the BBC.com. “He’s fast-tracked himself, seriously. He’s one of the best in the world and we’ll fight out on April 9 just how good he is. I believe he’s the real deal. I’ve been supporting him from the start. I’d love to get in the ring and see just how good he really is. But he’s got bigger fish to fry at the moment. And if he can win the IBF heavyweight championship of the world, how big would a fight between us be? If he wins this next fight, I’m pretty positive that public demand will say we got to get the two best in there.”

Just enough already, Haye. Take the pain and realize Joshua is not interested in that fight and neither is his promoter Eddie Hearn. Keep a stiff upper lip and deal with it. THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED.

I think Haye needs to let go and just move on. It’s almost embarrassing to see hear him talking up the fight against Joshua, when it’s clear that the 6’6” Joshua just isn’t interested in that match-up. Hearn obviously has his own plans for Joshua right now that don’t include Haye.

If Joshua wins the title, then I can see Hearn playing it safe by matching him against the likes of Dereck Chisora and then looking to fight more bottom feeders after that in the division. Haye is not going to be among the top picks that Hearn comes up with, believe me. I see Haye getting a shot at Joshua never.

Haye figures that he’d make easy work of Joshua if he does get a chance to fight him. No doubt that Haye has seen Joshua’s fights in the amateur ranks against southpaws Mihai Nistor and Roberto Cammarelle and noticed how vulnerable Joshua was against hard punchers. Nistor, a 5’11” Romanian fighter, stopped Joshua in 2011, and Cammarelle, a fighter from Italy, was twice robbed in fights against Joshua in 2011 and 2012. I had Cammarelle winning both fights against Joshua comfortably. I thought the scoring for both of those fights were a complete joke. Cammarelle dominated the action against Joshua, and was rocking his head back with power shots all night long.

“It might be a one-round job,” Haye said. “I’m not saying that in a disrespectful manner. You know, as soon as I hit people on the chin, they stay hit. I hit them, they hit the floor – that’s how it happens. It depends on how long he can stay up for. I’m very fast, very agile and I punch ridiculously hard, so when you put those combinations together……..”

I think Joshua and Hearn will need to put Haye on ignore because it’s pretty clear that he’s not going to keep name dropping, and I seriously doubt that Haye is going to fight a live body to earn his way to a fight against Joshua. I see Haye continuing with this mismatches against bottom ranked fodder in hopes of keeping a winning steak going long enough to get a big cash out fight.
