By Todd Creel – Boxing fans, we have ahead of us an entertaining weekend inside the ring. There are some interesting match-ups scheduled, including a few title bouts, a fight between two pound-for-pound ranked pugilists, and some entertaining regional scraps (in the Washington D.C. Area at least). Let’s take a few minutes to have an unbiased look at some of these.

At the top of the list, we have a match that has been discussed ad nauseam. I am of course referring to the third fight in the trilogy between Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao and Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley. Regardless of anyone’s opinion on the first two fights, we enter this bout with a record split with one win a piece. The winner of this one will, on paper, walk away with the bragging rights. This is an intriguing bout, bringing with it a few questions needing to be answered. Bradley is now training with the veteran Teddy Atlas. This will be a defining bout for the pair, as a clear win will prove that the addition of Atlas has brought Bradley’s game up a notch. Will having Atlas in his corner give Bradley the edge in this third installment? On Pacquiao’s end, we have the tried and true trainer Freddie Roach. Roach has prepared Manny for numerous fights, and judging by pictures and videos, Pacquiao appears to be in excellent condition. However Pac-Man has been in a great many entertaining fights and wars that may have taken their toll. In any case, this fight has the potential to be a memorable one as neither fighter is known for backing down.

Charles Martin: Joshua was gifted his Olympic gold medal

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) doesn’t think too highly of challenger Anthony Joshua’s Olympic credentials from the 2012 London Olympics. In fact, Martin believes that the 6’6” British Joshua was given a gift gold medal in that Olympics due to him being the Londoner fighting in front of what appeared to be a large crowd of British fans.

Having seen the 2012 Olympics, myself, I must agree with Martin. I thought Joshua should have been eliminated from competition straightaway in his first match against Cuba’s Erislandy Savon, who appeared to get the better of Joshua throughout the fight. The scoring was just nonsensical in my view, as I saw Savon landing head-snapping shots with the white portion of his gloves repeatedly and he wasn’t consistently being given points.

Joshua: Charles Martin isn’t my toughest opponent

joshua83By Scott Gilfoid: Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) doesn’t think he’s facing the toughest opponent in his fight this Saturday night against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK. In other words, it appears that Joshua is overlooking the hard hitting Martin by dismissing him as not the best opponent of his short three-year pro career.

When you get novices like Joshua dismissing world champions as threats, then you know that there’s an ego that is out of control and begging to be put in it’s place.

Charles Martin: I won’t leave it in the judges’ hands against Joshua

1-CHARLES MARTIN-MEDIA WORKOUT-01122015-8734By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0, 21 KOs) doesn’t plan on leaving the outcome of his fight this Saturday night against Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) into the hands of the judges in their fight at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Martin says he’s going to make sure the judges play no part in this fight by him going out there and knocking the 6’6” Joshua out. Martin is going into hostile territory in this fight by fighting Joshua in front of what will be a huge crowd of Brits at the O2 Arena.

Deontay Wilder wants Martin to beat Joshua

1-CHARLES MARTIN-MEDIA WORKOUT-01122015-7152By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder sees this Saturday’s contest between giant heavyweights Charles Martin and Anthony Joshua as a purely 50-50 toss up fight that is impossible for him to pick a winner in. Deontay, 6’7”, says he would like fellow American talent Martin to win the fight, but he sees it as a tough one for him.

Ultimately, Deontay thinks the 6’5” Martin’s southpaw stance and his awkward fighting style could be too much for Joshua, who came from an amateur in fighting generally predictable orthodox fighters. Facing a guy that does everything backwards like the 29-year-old Martin is going to be a whole new experience from Joshua.

Eric Molina: I want Joshua – Martin winner

molina700By Dan Ambrose: Former world title challenger Eric Molina (25-3, 19 KOs) is hoping to capitalize on his 10th round knockout victory from last Saturday night over former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek (25-3, 19 KOs) to try and get a title shot against the winner of this Saturday’s fight between IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs).

Molina, 6’4”, feels that he has a good chance of facing the winner of the Martin-Joshua fight because of his spectacular one-punch knockout of the 39-year-old Adamek in their fight at the Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland. At the time of the stoppage, Molina was trailing by the scores of 88-83, 88-83, and 88-83.

Fury: Charles Martin will KO Anthony Joshua cold!

joshua2By Scott Gilfoid: IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has analyzed this Saturday’s contest between IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) and Britain’s Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) and come to the conclusion that all Joshua has is a puncher’s chance to beat the talented 6’5” Martin in their fight on April 9 at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Fury sees Joshua as a fighter that lacks the boxing skills to get the job done. Indeed, Fury sees Joshua as little more than a slow puncher with almost no experience at the pro level. The only true fight that Joshua has had since he turned pro three years ago was his fight against an injured Dillian Whyte, who came into their fight with a bad left shoulder that he re-injured in the 2nd round after almost knocking Joshua out.

“I just think Joshua is useless,” said Fury via the mirror.co.uk. “He’s got no footwork, he can’t box and he’s got no jab so that means he’s useless.

Joshua expects Haye to face Shannon Briggs

briggs5By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight Anthony Joshua believes that former two division world champion David Haye (27-2, 25 KOs) will be fighting former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs in the near future. It’s a fight that makes all the sense in the world for Haye to make. He needs publicity, and Briggs would bring him that. However, it would also be a risky fight for Haye because he’s little more than a pumped up cruiserweight, and not a true heavyweight like Briggs. When you get a pseudo heavyweight like Haye taking on real heavyweights like Briggs, bad things can happen to the artificial heavyweight.

Briggs, 44, recently busted into Haye’s press conference this week on Monday to call him out. Haye was announcing his next fight against little known heavyweight Arnold Gjergjaj (29-0, 21 KOs), who he will be facing in a 10 round bout on May 21 at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Briggs put Haye’s feet to the fire in the press conference by rightfully asking him why he’s fighting an unknown fighter with a padded record like the 31-year-old Gjergjaj.

1-CHARLES MARTIN-MEDIA WORKOUT-01122015-8821By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0, 21 KOs) isn’t worried about fighting in the hometown of unbeaten challenger Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) in their fight on April 9 at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Martin feels that he’s going to smash Joshua to bits and then his fans will adopt as their new hero to follow. Martin says that wherever he goes on this earth, it’s his home. He doesn’t see England being any different than any other place that he comes to.
